A Divorce He Regrets (Raina and Alexander) novel Chapter 266

I quickly keyed it in the code and it clicked open.

My breath caught in my throat and I momentarily forgot how to breathe.

The door swung open immediately.

I started searching and in it were the usual documents with letterheads, stacks of black checkbooks, a few memory cards and one black flash card that was put in a solder that was labeled Board Activities: Confidential.

My hands immediately reached for it and my finger water around the drive quickly and without any hesitation.

I immediately slid it into my laptop and copied everything that was on it to a hidden folder I had already created on my phone. The contents on the flash drive were encrypted but my software was able to catch it fast.

I returned the drive into the document, arranged everything back the way I had met them and gently closed the safe back after checking it twice to and sure it didn’t look like it had been gone through.

I started going through the documents I had copied when I saw all of it.

Videos. Dozens of them.

Families, children, wives and even aged parents, all of them were blindfolded and while some cried, others were sitting perfectly still trying to look brave but I could tell how scared they were from the look on their faces. What was even more shocking was that one of the videos had a timestamp of just three days ago.

My blood turned into ice and I balled my hand into fists, my knuckles turning white from how tight I was gripping my hands.

Alex was right. They really had been threatened.

I nodded as I turned back to look at the pile of papers on my desk. “Yes I am,” I replied, my voice void of any emotion. “I’m working late. Orders from Cale.”

He didn’t give me a response, instead he turned around and started walking away from me. He picked up his phone and started saying incoherent words but I heard him mention Cale’s name so I knew he was reporting to him.

I sat in silence for a few minutes longer, my eyes focused on the screen and the files that were laid out on my desk but my mind was entirely somewhere else.

We finally had what we needed but I couldn’t believe how evil Cale really was.

I left the office building an hour later and headed straight to meet with Alex at a cafe where he was waiting for me. We needed to plan things away from the girls not because we didn’t want them to know but because we didn’t want to put them at risk by getting them involved.

He was sitting by a corner at the back of the cafe, his face was filled with impatience and he was tapping his legs anxiously. His shoulders were tense and I could tell he was dreading the information I was about to give to him.
