But just as she turned around, Vesta Hawkins grabbed her hand again. "Jasmine, give Aunt Vesta a chance—"
Before she could finish, Jasmine's driver stepped out of the car. "Ms. Hawkins, please let go."
Vesta didn't release her grip. She looked at Jasmine with a bitter smile. "Jasmine, are you really going to shut me out like this?"
Jasmine didn't say a word. She simply reached out to pry the woman's fingers away. Seeing this, Vesta tightened her hold. "Jasmine—"
Before the word fully left her mouth, the driver stepped forward and forcefully brushed Vesta's hand away. Jasmine didn't even look back as she climbed straight into the car. Vesta tried to follow, but the driver blocked her path.
Watching Jasmine settle into the backseat without a single backward glance, she turned to the driver. "Jarvis, I just want to talk to her. I'm not going to hurt her. Please, let me get in the car and have a quick word, okay? If you think it's a problem, you can call Thorne right now."
Jarvis replied in a flat, unyielding tone. "From the moment I became Jasmine's driver, Mr. Henderson made it clear that my first priority is to obey her commands. Even if Mr. Henderson were standing right here, I would listen to Jasmine first."
His primary duty was to follow the little girl's wishes.
And right now, it was glaringly obvious that Jasmine wanted absolutely nothing to do with Vesta.
Therefore, no matter what Vesta said, it was useless.
With that, Jarvis said nothing more. He turned on his heel and walked away.
Vesta pressed her lips into a tight, frustrated line.
Back when she had been completely unable to get ahold of Thorne, she had tried multiple times to use Jasmine as a stepping stone.
Her previous failed attempt had taught her a harsh lesson: with a dedicated driver guarding the girl, taking Jasmine anywhere was nearly impossible. That was why she had kept her distance lately.
But this time, she was truly out of options. Desperation had driven her to target the child once again.
She just hadn't expected this...
Meanwhile.
As the car merged smoothly into the flowing traffic, Jasmine looked at Jarvis in the rearview mirror. "When we get home, are you going to tell him about this?"
"Him," of course, meant Thorne.
