"I will ask you one more time." Sammie's voice was frigid, radiating an unbearable pressure. "Did you poison Rebecca."
The subordinate running the interrogation leaned in and muttered, "Boss, we checked her phone. She's recently fallen into massive debt and is under extreme financial pressure."
"And... she was fired by Rebecca's family in the past, so she's always held a grudge."
Motive. Opportunity. Time. Evidence.
All perfectly aligned.
Standing a short distance away, Chloe's palms were drenched in cold sweat. Her heart was hammering against her ribs, but she kept up her facade of fragile concern, hiding a tiny, nearly imperceptible glint of relief in her eyes.
It worked.
Everything was going exactly according to her plan.
Martha finally broke down, collapsing fully onto the floor and sobbing uncontrollably, her voice hoarse. "It... it was me..."
"I poisoned Miss Rebecca..."
"I hated her... I hated her family... I owe so much money, I didn't want to live anymore, so I wanted to drag her down to hell with me..."
"It has nothing to do with anyone else. I did it all by myself..."
She repeated the lines she had been forced to memorize over and over, crying hysterically, looking the very picture of absolute despair and regret.
Everyone believed her.
Including the surrounding maids, the butler, and the security team.
Only Chloe knew that every single word out of the woman's mouth had been bought with a massive sum of money and a vicious threat against her family's lives.
Sammie looked down at the sobbing maid, his eyes completely devoid of emotion, holding nothing but an icy, homicidal rage.
Without a second of hesitation, he gave his order. "Drag her out."
"Hand her over to the police."
"Let them throw the book at her."
"As for her family..."
He paused, his voice dropping to absolute zero. "Drive them all out of the city. Make sure they never set foot here again."
Martha's entire body stiffened, her sobbing cutting off abruptly. A flash of utter despair crossed her eyes, but she didn't say a single word in her defense. She didn't try to explain.
She was dragged out of the room.
The living room sank back into a dead silence.
Chloe slowly exhaled, the tension completely leaving her body. She almost couldn't stand, leaning against the wall as tears slid down her cheeks. "How could it be Martha... She always looked like such an honest person, how could she be so ruthless..."
