Felicia glanced over her shoulder at the man behind her. “I’ll drive myself,” she said.
Max didn’t push it. “Alright.”
Felicia and Jeremy headed out, slipping into his car first.
Jeremy knew exactly why Max had shown up.
“So, what did you want to talk about?” he asked as he started the engine.
Felicia reached into her bag and handed him a folder. “Take a look at this.”
He flipped it open. The moment he scanned the contents, he understood. He looked at Felicia. “This is from Max, isn’t it?”
Felicia nodded.
“You want this project.”
“I’m not some saint who can ignore temptation. It’s a tough offer to turn down.”
Jeremy raised his eyebrows. “So, what does he want from you in return for a deal like this?”
Felicia let out a quiet, sarcastic laugh. “He says it’s his way of making it up to me. All he wants is for me to stay with Anne.” She handed him another contract. “I went to see him today and had him sign this one.”
Jeremy read through it. The terms were strict, leaving Max no room to interfere. Still, Max had signed it without a second thought.
Jeremy’s face grew serious. “He’s using this contract to keep you married to him.”
Felicia had already guessed as much.
If Max wanted something, he’d pay whatever it took. To him, everything had a price, whether it was money or feelings. He always thought he could buy what he wanted, because money was never a problem for him.
That was just who he was, arrogant and so sure of himself.
“Max isn’t going to agree to a divorce anytime soon. I need to figure something else out. But if I can’t leave yet and this project is right here, I’d be stupid to say no.”
Jeremy folded the contracts and handed them back. He adjusted his glasses, looking at her. Max had all the power in their marriage.
“So, you’ve already made your decision, haven’t you?”
