His words hung in the air, making Felicia pause. She stood there for a moment, only now remembering the call Max had made to her yesterday. It sounded like the event Gavin mentioned was the same one Max had talked about.
When she didn’t answer right away, Gavin’s face fell and he looked genuinely disappointed. “Is something wrong? Don’t tell me you’re going to say no.”
Felicia gave him a small smile. “If I turned you down, it would be pretty rude of me.”
Gavin’s mood instantly brightened. “Great. I’ll come pick you up at nine tomorrow morning.”
She nodded, agreeing to the plan.
With that settled, Gavin got into his car and drove off, clearly in a good mood.
Felicia headed upstairs to her office.
Luke looked up when she walked in. “All done?”
She nodded. “Yep, everything went smoothly.”
“That’s good to hear. How much longer do you think the rest will take?”
“Probably about a week,” Felicia replied. “After that, I’ll let the team handle whatever’s left.”
Luke let out a sigh. “The company’s doing really well right now.”
Felicia felt a pang of reluctance deep down, but there was nothing she could do about it. She had already made her decision, and there was no room for second thoughts anymore.
Just then, the receptionist knocked and walked in, holding a bunch of roses.
Felicia frowned.
“These just came for you,” the receptionist said.
Felicia didn’t hesitate. “Throw them out.”
The receptionist nodded and left with the flowers.
Luke watched the whole thing and seemed to put two and two together. “Holden sent them, didn’t he?”
Felicia rolled her eyes. “Who else would pull something insane like this?”
Luke’s expression turned serious. “He really just won’t quit.”
Felicia had already thought of that. The contract with the other company wasn’t signed yet. If anything happened now, they could easily pull out, and she couldn’t risk putting the company in danger. Holden was completely unpredictable. He was worse than Max, even more obsessive and twisted.
“I know.”
Jeremy glanced at her. “Are you free this afternoon? I just talked to Michael, and he’s home. Want to go see him?”
Felicia shook her head. “I can’t today.” She told Jeremy about the event she was supposed to attend with Gavin.
“What kind of event is it? Where’s it being held?” Jeremy asked.
“I’m not sure about the details,” Felicia admitted.
“Ask Gavin,” Jeremy suggested.
“Okay.”
After lunch, the doorbell rang.
Luke went to answer it. When he saw who was standing outside, he stood there in stunned silence.
