She really wanted to hang up. But in the end, she picked up.
On the other end, a low voice came through. “Isn’t it time you gave me an explanation?”
Felicia was too tired to play games. “Max, just say what you want.”
There was silence after that. The kind of silence that made the air feel heavy, like she couldn’t take a full breath.
When he didn’t answer, Felicia was about to end the call herself. That’s when his voice cut in, firm and unyielding. “Two days from now, you’re coming to an event with me. Be ready.”
He didn’t give her a chance to say no. The line went dead.
Felicia just stared at her phone, stunned for a second. Then she tossed it aside.
After lunch, Felicia settled into work at the villa.
That afternoon, Jeremy dropped by after wrapping things up at the New York office.
Luke had already heard he was coming, so he wasn’t surprised at all.
“Hey Jeremy,” Luke called out.
Jeremy gave a small nod. “How’s it going?”
“All good.”
Felicia was still upstairs in the study, busy with her own work.
The guys stayed downstairs, catching up.
That night, Jeremy and Luke cooked dinner together.
“Luke, your cooking’s looking pretty solid,” Jeremy said, eyeing a plate of saucy pork with an approving grin.
Luke laughed. “Only because I messed it up at least a dozen times first. Felicia’s always working, and I’ve finished most of my stuff here, so I started learning to cook. We can’t really get used to the food around here, so it’s up to me.”
Right as dinner was ready, Felicia came down.
A little after ten, Gavin showed up with the other company’s reps.
Felicia went to greet them, shaking hands before leading everyone to the meeting room. She’d already laid out all the documents they’d need to look over.
They spent almost two hours in talks. The other company had already done their research on Northstar Dynamics, so things went smoothly. Once everything was settled, they started work on the contract, share transfer, and all the paperwork for taxes and legal stuff.
Felicia invited them out for dinner that evening.
When the meeting was done, she walked them downstairs to see them off.
As their car pulled away, Felicia turned to Gavin. “Really, thank you for all your help.”
Gavin gave her a grin. “Not like I did it for free. You owe me, Evelynn.”
Felicia laughed. “Of course.”
Gavin looked at her, a hint of mischief in his eyes. “That’s great. There’s an event tomorrow. How about being my date?”
