Jeffrey opened the email and meticulously scrolled through the contents.
A few minutes later, he set the tablet down and looked at Daniel. "How touching, a brother constantly looking out for his sibling."
Daniel's tone was measured and entirely unhurried. "You cannot possibly abandon Grandpa Clarence and the entire Manning family just for Willa. Tell me, have you truly been happy all these years?"
Jeffrey let out a soft, mocking scoff. "It is rare for you to show such profound concern for me."
"Your injury cannot be hidden for long," Daniel warned. "At a critical time like this, you cannot afford any missteps that would give your rivals an opportunity to strike back."
"So?" Jeffrey asked flatly.
"Having one more friend is always significantly better than having one more enemy. Now that you have completely burned bridges with Max, you are going to need the Hawthorne family's resources sooner or later."
Jeffrey remained completely silent.
"Think about it carefully," Daniel concluded. He stood up smoothly. "Take care of your health."
With that, Daniel turned and left the study.
Silence rapidly reclaimed the room as the secretary closed the door behind him. In the absolute quiet, a phone suddenly vibrated. He reached for it, glanced at the caller ID, and answered. "Hello."
Ivy's voice came through clearly. "We are about to board the plane."
Jeffrey said absolutely nothing.
"Please take good care of yourself and Grandpa. You have to recover quickly." Ivy paused, waiting, but there was only heavy silence on the other end. "I will hang up now."
Just as she was about to end the call, Jeffrey spoke. "Stay safe."
"I will," Ivy promised.
She ended the call and let out a long, shaky breath. Turning to Willa, who was watching her closely, she reached out and ruffled the girl's hair affectionately. "It is okay. Everything will be fine."
Willa nodded. "Yeah."
Just then, Ivy's phone rang again. It was Heather. Her heart skipped a frantic beat as she stepped aside to take the call, leaving Willa looking slightly confused.
