Max let out a low chuckle.

Felicia stood up to find the cats, and Max trailed behind her into the cat room. The moment Felicia called out softly, the two plump felines paused, their ears twitching. Recognizing her voice, they meowed excitedly, their tails shooting straight up as they trotted over to rub affectionately against her ankles.

Felicia crouched down. The cats immediately flopped onto their backs, purring loudly as she stroked their bellies. She glanced up at Max, raising an eyebrow. "See? Look how adorable they are."

Max leaned down and firmly gripped her arm, helping her stand back up. "Don't squat for too long."

Once upright, Felicia sighed. "I want to take them home."

Max immediately vetoed the idea. "If you aren't careful, you'll easily get scratched. If you miss them, you can come back here to visit them anytime. Once the baby is born, if you still want to take them home, we can make some arrangements."

Felicia had only been testing the waters. If he didn't agree, she wasn't going to push it. She let the cats out of the room and grabbed the feather wand, playing with them in the open hall for a while. Max stayed right by her side, occasionally helping to tease the energetic felines.

Anne and Sean came running over, their laughter echoing through the house. Darin and Greg followed closely behind, having spent the last hour supervising the kids in the backyard.

With plenty of the afternoon left, Darin suggested he, Greg and Max hit the private basketball court. Greg had an errand to run and politely declined. Max borrowed a set of Darin's sportswear and changed.

The two men stepped out of the villa. As they passed a neighboring property undergoing heavy renovations, a man holding a stack of blueprints hurried out to greet them. "Mr. Foxhall."

The villa had recently hit the market, and Darin had immediately bought it. It wasn't entirely practical for him to live permanently at Ross Manor, so purchasing the neighboring property was the perfect solution. It offered him independence while keeping him right next door.
