"Mr. Hawthorne was playing with them in the cat room," the nanny explained.

"I'll go take a look," Felicia offered, standing up.

"Those are the two kittens you brought back from Cloudville," Ava mentioned. "Go see them. I'm sure they've missed you."

"I will." Felicia left the room and headed downstairs.

Once they were alone, Ava turned to Colton. "You came up pretty quickly. Did Max say anything to you?" Considering Max had personally delivered gifts today, he was clearly making his intentions known.

"He said he plans to hold a formal wedding for Felicia after the baby is born," Colton relayed grimly. "He told us we could make any demands we wanted."

Hearing the bitterness in his voice, Ava knew Colton was still harboring deep resentments. "Given how things have turned out, giving Felicia a proper wedding is the best possible outcome. Fixating on the past is entirely pointless now. What truly matters is how he treats her moving forward. You need to know when to let things go."

Colton didn't argue. "Yeah."

Downstairs, Felicia found Max sitting alone on the sofa. Several long, bloody scratch marks marred the back of his hand. The nanny hurriedly brought over the first aid kit.
