The Ex-Wife's Burning Elegance novel Chapter 2223

"You can kidnap Stella, and we'll force Joshua to play the hero and save her. Throw in a little life-or-death adrenaline, her brain short-circuits, and boom—she's back with Joshua."

"Absolutely out of the question!" Beckett roared. "You want me to kidnap Stella Cameron and fake a hostage situation? Are you actively trying to get me killed?!

"That lunatic will actually murder me!"

"I have faith in your survival skills," Laurel deadpanned.

"You're gambling with my life!"

"We owe this to Joshua and Stella—"

Before Laurel could finish her guilt trip, Beckett cut her off.

"If he wants to get married, let him get married. Why are you so obsessed with meddling?

"If you blow up his master plan, he's going to trace it back to you, and you'll be the one taking the fall for nothing.

"I'm not doing it. Find some other sacrificial lamb. You can try to guilt-trip me all you want, but I'm staying in Antarctica."

Laurel opened her mouth to argue, but Beckett mercilessly hung up on her.

...

Stella and Laurel weren't the only ones on the guest list. Leonard had also received an invitation.

Staring down at the elegant cardstock, his eyes turned completely pitch-black.

He immediately dialed Juniper's number. "Juniper, I warned you to stay the hell away from Joshua—"

Before he could finish his threat, Juniper's sickeningly cheerful voice chimed in.

"Mr. Lerman, I'm currently picking out our wedding bands, so I don't really have time to chat."

Click. She hung up on him.

Leonard called back immediately, but it rang out to voicemail.

Staring dangerously at his phone screen, he pressed his lips into a thin, furious line.
