Stella couldn't immediately place why it looked so familiar.
Had she accidentally stumbled across the Gardner crest at some point?
But while she had visited Aetheria before, she had never actually set foot inside the Gardner estate.
Still, Aetheria was their stronghold. Maybe she had seen the symbol carved into a wall somewhere and simply forgotten over the years.
"I'll forward this to my people and have them join the search," Stella said.
"Are you trying to find the heirloom before he walks down the aisle?" Laurel asked.
"Even if he gets married, I'm still going to look for it," Stella replied steadily. "Losing the heirloom is a massive vulnerability. It's best if we recover it.
"That way, if any other crises pop up, Joshua will have the full power of his family to handle them."
Laurel fell silent for a long moment before murmuring, "Stella, I used to think you didn't love Joshua enough. Now I see that absolutely no one loves him more than you do.
"I was so wrong about you back then. I'm sorry."
"I honestly didn't think romantic rivals could ever hold a normal conversation," Stella admitted softly. "I figured all rivals were unhinged, like Rachel Pearce."
Dropping her usual intense demeanor, Laurel asked, "What about Juniper? What do you think of her?"
"She's a good person, and her feelings for him are genuine," Stella said. "As long as she loves him, nothing else matters."
"And if she was just using him? Would you step in and stop the wedding?"
"I probably wouldn't have the right to, and it would be incredibly arrogant of me... but yes, I would."
Stella paused before asking, "Are you going to the wedding?"
"Of course I am."
Mainly because Laurel wanted to see exactly what kind of psychotic game Joshua was playing.
"Are you going?" Laurel asked.
"I already promised Juniper I would."
