"The child Aurora gave birth to doesn't belong to our family," Mrs. Chapman continued sharply. "We can easily file a lawsuit and demand compensation. We aren't the ones who will be humiliated. If you want to make this public knowledge, the Chapman family is more than ready to play along!"
Jonathan could only look toward Skyler Williams.
Skyler remained silent for a few agonizing seconds. "We'll do as the Chapman family says."
Aurora was entirely in the wrong, and because their two families still had ongoing business partnerships, the Chapmans hadn't pushed things to the absolute brink.
A clean break was the most dignified outcome they could hope for.
After all, if this scandal truly blew up, the Chapman family would become the laughingstock of the city's high society.
If the Williams family tried to push their luck, the Chapmans would undoubtedly tear them apart.
Since Skyler had made the final call, Jonathan held his tongue.
Sellers Burton watched the scene unfold and let out a mocking scoff. "McCoy, thanks for raising my daughter all these years. But don't worry, I'll reimburse you for her living expenses."
McCoy's gaze was lethal. "Don't celebrate just yet, Sellers. You're claiming a child in front of all these people. If she isn't yours either, you'll be the one looking like a fool."
Right on cue, the Burton family's doctor stepped into the room.
"Mr. Burton..." the doctor stammered. "The DNA results show that Miss Shay has no biological connection to you either."
Sellers froze in disbelief. "What did you just say?"
The doctor simply handed over the report. "Please, take a look for yourself, sir."
Sellers stared at the paper, his eyes widening in sheer shock.
"How is this possible? How could Shay not be mine?! Aurora swore..."
Beside them, Zara let out a cold laugh. "If the child isn't McCoy's, and she isn't yours, Mr. Burton, then that means... Aurora was sleeping with more than just two men during that time. When the Fordham brothers played that video at the engagement party, I actually thought she might have had her reasons. Looking at it now, what reasons could she possibly have? She was clearly just enjoying herself!"
At that moment, Aurora, stripped of her final bargaining chip, walked back into the room.
If the child wasn't McCoy's, there was still a fifty percent chance it was Sellers's.
"You whore!" he snarled, his eyes bloodshot and blazing with fury.
Losing his only potential heir meant his bloodline was effectively dead.
What was a family head without a successor? He might as well be an employee working for someone else.
It wouldn't be long before his position in the family was stripped away.
And it was all her fault!
Fueled by that thought, Sellers unleashed every ounce of his pent-up rage onto Aurora.
While he wasn't as skilled a fighter as Joshua, he was still a man who had undergone elite training.
He swung with all his might. The blow was so brutal it sent Aurora crashing to the floor, knocking several of her teeth loose.
Blood instantly poured from her nose and mouth.
