Back when he was in Harbor City, someone who wanted to get on sean’s good side had deliberately shown Wendy a series of photos of Zac and Charlotte together. They had thrown in a few choice remarks to stir up Wendy’s possessiveness.

After Wendy returned to the country, Zac stopped even pretending He spent his days tangled up with her, and it was enough to finally make Charlotte give up on him completely and return to Jersey City to go through with the engagement.

Sean’s thoughts returned to the present, his gaze deep. “Four years,” he said. “Finally, my patience has paid off.”

Desmond’s voice turned firm. “Don’t you dare mistreat Lottie. If she suffers even the slightest grievance after marrying you, I won’t let it slide.”

“Dad, don’t worry,” Sean replied, smiling. “I can’t wait to spoil her. How could I possibly mistreat her?”

Desmond looked up at him. “Calling me dad already? You haven’t even gotten your marriage license yet.”

“We’ll have to change how we address each other eventually anyway,” Sean said. “Might as well get used to it early.”

“You…” Desmond shook his head and poured him more coffee. “Drink.”

The next day, Charlotte went with Xena and Lilian to Moonlight Lake to check out the wedding venue, while Sean went to scout possible homes. They had agreed he would narrow it down first, and then she would pick her favorite from his shortlist.

Moonlight Lake lay at the foot of Swan Mountain, with a three–story villa on the shore that belonged to the Riley family. In the height of summer, the lakeside was a lush sweep of green grass and towering trees.

The wide–open lawn stretched as far as the eye could see. It was perfect for a wedding ceremony. Charlotte had spent many childhood afternoons here, flying kites and playing with her mother.

Lilian had already contacted the top wedding–planning company in the country, and their best team was on site. By the end of the day, Charlotte’s feet ached from walking the grounds, even in sneakers.

When they got home, she flopped onto the sofa and rested her head on Sean’s thigh, scrolling through the photos of the houses,

he had found.

Sean began massaging her shoulders. “You’ve had a long day,” he said.

She swiped to a photo of a house with a large garden. “I like this one. I could plant flowers here.”

“That one’s nice,” Sean agreed. “It’s near Pinecrest Lake, about ten minutes from your law office.”

“That’s perfect.” She flicked to the next one. “This one’s gorgeous too–like a castle. If we have a daughter someday, she’d be our little princess in her own castle.”

“Do you want a boy or a girl?” he asked.

“Either is fine,” she said after a pause. “But if I had to choose, I’dy a girl. They’re so sweet. I’d buy her all kinds of pretty dresses, braid her hair, and make her my little princess.”

Sean’s eyes softened. “I’d like a girl too. If she looked like you, shed be beautiful.”

Charlotte tilted her head back to look at him, her eyes sparkling. “veryone says daughters take after their fathers. You’re so handsome, she’d be gorgeous from day one.”

“Then if we have a boy, he’ll take after his mother. With you as his mom, he’ll be a heartbreaker.”

She laughed. “Then we’ll have two–one of each.”

“Deal,” he said.
