Andre slipped back into the bedroom. Mia, still groggy, rolled over and yawned. “Babe, what’s the little rascal up to now?”
Pulling on a shirt and grabbing his phone, Andre said, “The kids want an English lesson. You catch a few more winks—I’ll handle it. I’ll wake you up at two.”
He headed to the study, where both kids clambered onto his lap, one on each leg, ready for their lesson.
By noon, the grown-ups were awake, but the two Henrys were getting drowsy. Henry flopped straight into his dad’s arms and was out like a light. Wayne, rubbing his sleepy eyes, insisted on finding his own dad.
Chad scooped Wayne up, and the little guy buried his face in Chad’s shoulder. He was asleep in seconds.
Later, Andre and Chad, each carrying a snoozing child, went back to the bedroom to gently wake their wives.
That afternoon, Grandpa Hansen was in the garden, pretending to complain, “I’m done playing with you two!” But he was grinning like a mischievous kid, sneaking up behind his granddaughters with his cane to give them a good scare.
His prank landed—Molly and Mia shrieked, and Hansen took off running, faster than anyone expected.
Henry, still sleepy and watching the chaos from his dad’s lap, gave a big yawn and made a show of fake-crying. He hadn’t slept enough, but his dad had roused him so he wouldn’t turn into a night owl.
Wayne, meanwhile, was impossible to wake. Bruce picked him up and held him upright, but Wayne just let his head loll and kept right on dreaming. He’d started out napping in Chad’s arms, but Bruce had carried him off.
Chad called over, “Hey, big bro, you’re not going to wake Sweetie up like that.”
He crossed the room to try rousing his son himself.
Meanwhile, Molly and Mia caught up with their dad, both of them yelling right into Hansen’s ears. “Aaaah!” Hansen groaned, “I’m not deaf yet, but you two are trying real hard.”
His daughters grinned, “No worries, Dad—we’ll buy you hearing aids!”
