Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance novel Chapter 1689

Officer Chapman just couldn’t bring himself to scold his beautiful little girl. She was still a baby, barely out of diapers, after all. All he could do was mutter, “Tomorrow, your aunt’s taking over! And for the next few days, you’re not allowed near your dad—two troublemakers, the both of you.”

Annie scooped Lizzy up and headed upstairs. Lizzy kept her eyes on her dad the whole way, the sweet father-daughter bubble promptly popped by her no-nonsense mom.

Back in their room, Annie wasted no time calling Mia for tips on treating a baby sunburn.

Mia was horrified. “Are you serious? In this heat, you let him take her out again?”

Annie sighed, “Conner’s got rocks for brains.”

With Mia’s advice in hand, Annie gently dabbed lotion on Lizzy’s arms and, multitasking as always, called her sister.

The next morning, Maja practically marched down the hill and pried her niece straight out of her brother-in-law’s arms.

Mr. Nettleton stomped around the house, grumbling, “If she wants a daughter so bad, she should have her own instead of always snatching someone else’s. Has she ever even heard of manners?”

For two days, Conner had to go out without his favorite “little sidekick.” He wasn’t the only one suffering. Even his bodyguards couldn’t help but joke, “Boss, this can’t go on. Why don’t you help your sister-in-law find a boyfriend so she can have her own kid? She’s taken Lizzy and honestly, we kind of miss her too.”

Mr. Nettleton sighed, “I mentioned that idea last night, and your sister-in-law almost decked me.”

That night, Annie was still fuming. “Conner, do you really not get why my sister is looking after Lizzy? She’s doing it because she doesn’t trust you, not because she’s single and wants to steal our kid.”

Conner shot back, “We have a whole crew of nannies. If that’s not enough, your mom could help! You know your sister and I are like oil and water, total archenemies, and yet you send her over just to take our daughter away.”

Annie laughed and turned to her coworkers. “That sounds just like my Lizzy. Loud as ever.”

A colleague peeked out the window, spotted the scene, and grinned. “Who else could it be? Only your Lizzy and your husband would come out here in the middle of a heatwave.” Everyone at the station knew by now that no matter how bad the weather, Officer Chapman’s husband and daughter would always be out and about.

Annie didn’t hesitate. She dropped her folder and stormed outside, already picturing her exasperating husband. “Conner!”

There, under the shade of a tree, stood the father-daughter duo, Conner holding a huge bouquet of pink roses. He didn’t seem the least bit bothered by the attention.

He was dressed in a black pinstripe polo, smart and relaxed. Lizzy wore a sky-blue sundress and a wide-brimmed sunhat—definitely her aunt Maja’s fashion handiwork.
