Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance novel Chapter 1688

Patty never imagined she’d get played by a newbie—let alone more than once. She shot Anya a glare, already hatching a plan to elbow her rival out of the company for good.

Milka was used to whispers about her at work. Usually, the hot topic was her and Director Grant. But today, she was surprised to find herself starring in a whole new rumor.

“Milka, what does your boyfriend do? I heard he’s on the team or something?”

“My boyfriend?” Milka raised an eyebrow, amused.

“Yeah, the guy who picked you up after work the other day.”

The rumor mill kept spinning, just changed direction.

Director Grant caught wind of it too. Using work as an excuse, he called her into his office. “Milka, is that guy your boyfriend?”

Milka gave a little smile. “Why does that matter to you, Director?”

“I just want to know if I still have a shot.”

Milka’s answer was swift. “No.”

Director Grant took her reply and ran with it. “Well, if I don’t try, how will I know I’m out of chances?”

If Milka really had a boyfriend, she’d be upfront about it—no dodging, no returning the question. The fact that she wasn’t direct? That had to mean the guy hadn’t won her heart yet.

So, maybe he still had a chance.

That evening, Lizzy perched on the couch, tipping her face up to watch her mom lay into her dad.

“Ow, Annie! Didn’t you promise you’d go easy on me after we got married?” Mr. Nettleton hunched over, making it easier for his wife to swat him.

Annie waved her phone, exasperated. “It was a hundred degrees today! Conner, Lizzy’s your sweetheart from a past life, not your arch-nemesis!”

She’d come home to see her daughter’s cheeks all rosy. After grilling the housekeeper, she found out her troublemaking husband had taken their daughter out into the heat again.

After giving her husband a piece of her mind, Annie flopped onto the couch and exchanged looks with her little girl. Lizzy glanced up, her big eyes wide and sparkling.

Mom thinks I’m adorable. She won’t scold me… right?
