Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance novel Chapter 1679

A little while later, a military jeep pulled up next to their car. A soldier hopped out and held an umbrella over Mars as he made his way over, slid into the driver’s seat, and called out to his team, “Alright, you guys can head back. I’ve got her.”

The soldier outside gave Mars a sharp salute, something everyone in the car noticed—including a couple of Milka’s coworkers, who looked at Mars with open curiosity.

Once the door was closed, Mars turned to Milka and said, “I thought I’d make it earlier, but traffic was a nightmare. The rain was so heavy there was a fender bender up ahead, so I got held up. Lucky I came to pick you up—no way I’d let you drive alone in this weather.”

He glanced in the rearview mirror at the unfamiliar faces in the back.

Milka explained, “Oh, they’re my coworkers. Couldn’t get a cab, so I told them to tag along.”

Mars just nodded, buckled up, and adjusted the mirror. “If it’s still pouring like this tomorrow and you’re going out with friends, just call me. I’ll drive.”

Milka smiled, “Let’s talk about tomorrow when it comes.”

She hadn’t told her coworkers much about Mars, so she simply fastened her seatbelt and let him drive. Truth be told, having a guy take the wheel did feel a whole lot safer.

Mars knew the roads like the back of his hand. He avoided any sketchy spots, even if it meant taking the long way.

After dropping off Milka’s colleagues, Mars finally relaxed. “Man, I barely said a word back there. Didn’t want your coworkers thinking your boyfriend’s a clown.”

Milka shot him a look, “Who said you’re my boyfriend?”

Mars grinned, “Oh, come on. They’re definitely guessing it. And honestly, I’m almost your boyfriend—just with a little ‘ex’ tacked on the front.”

Milka tried to hold it in but ended up laughing anyway.

By the time they got home, the rain had eased up.

Mars, shameless as ever, stuck around for dinner with the Solomons.

She’d had her license since before Molly was born. “You drive yourself, then. I’m staying home.”

Jade, pleased with herself, let out a little “oh.”

Molly buckled her son into the car and got behind the wheel.

“Drive safe,” Coleen called out one last time as she left.

Parking was a mess at the restaurant, especially with the rain and her slow pace. By the time they arrived, her little boy was nearly asleep in the backseat.

She was still trying to figure out where to park when she looked up and saw her nephews and brothers—both real and honorary—waiting at the entrance.

Mars was there with Milka, and as soon as he saw her, he called out, “Hey, Milka, you here to see them?”
