Chapter 83 Unimportant person
The day before the shooting of “Peerless Grace,”
Renee arrived at the studio.
Stepping into the meeting room, she overheard a woman’s voice.
“Mr. Morris, I understand my experience might not warrant the role of assistant director of costuming, but Renee is even less qualified: She’s just a fresh graduate, barely a year out of school. How can she be ranked above me?”
Renee didn’t expect to bump into Alyssa here.
Charlie Morris, the director of clothing and makeup, was renowned for his expertise in ancient costume TV series. Nearing fifty, he radiated a pleasant demeanor.
“Hey! Renee, perfect timing!” Charlie, with his keen eyesight, spotted Renee immediately.
“Alyssa’s having a hard time accepting you as the vice director. You better explain yourself!” Everyone’s attention shifted to Renee.
She recalled hearing people say Charlie could be quite stern despite his friendly facade.
“Alyssa, we’re both part of the Peerless Grace team now, moving from classmates to colleagues,” Renee addressed her, though inwardly, she wasn’t thrilled about working with Alyssa. Given the small world of stylists, their paths crossing was inevitable.
After a polite greeting, Renee smoothly steered the conversation. “I overheard your comments. Yes, I’m younger and a recent graduate, but since my freshman year, I’ve worked on over ten major projects and earned many experiences. That includes three national ancient TV series I’ve won every major award in our field. Remember, I outperformed you for the KM Group’s stylist role. Do you have any doubts about my capabilities?”
Renee wore a confident smile as she gazed at Alyssa, her expression suggesting, “Do I even need to explain why I could lead?”
Alyssa, visibly upset, found no words to argue.
Charlie, having observed enough, intervened to ease the tension. “Alyssa, you’ve got no issues, right? Let’s get ready. We have a meeting in an hour.”
Before he left, Alyssa shot Renee a sharp look.
“You’re also named Renee?” A makeup artist approached quietly, whispering, “The one from the fireworks show two days ago…”
She wasn’t tall but incredibly adorable, with big, round eyes that added a touch of cuteness.
“It’s just a coincidence; our names are the same.“Renee looked serious. It was as if she was telling the truth.
“The same name?” The makeup artist’s gossip attempt was unsuccessful.
But she thought she had seen pictures of Renee at the park
She’d had to go check it out again.
She let out a disappointed sigh but quickly brightened up with a smile. “You’re truly stunning! The most beautiful woman I’ve ever met! I’m so fortunate to be working with you! Oh, I’m Susanna Todd, by the way!”
Renee glanced at her badge and realized Susanna was part of her team.

The clothing and makeup team had been in meetings all day, and the evening brought smaller team discussions. Throughout, Renee endured countless cold stares from Alyssa.
It was late when Renee got a call from Chad.
“Mrs. King, when are you coming home?“Chad’s voice was low. “Mr. King has already returned!”
Damn it!
She had completely forgotten to tell Marcelo about her business trip!
“Um…” Nervously, Renee hesitated, “I’m on a business trip I’ll be back in about two weeks with the crew.”
That was her best guess for her return.
After hanging up, Marcelo’s stern face haunted her thoughts.
She hadn’t communicated with him, but somehow, Renee felt his anger.
Thirty minutes later, she dialed Marcelo’s number.
The call connected, but he remained silent.
“Hello?” Renee asked.
Silence followed.
Clutching the hotel’s bedsheet, Renee said,
“Marcelo, I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to hide it from you. It just slipped my mind to tell you about it.This morning, I left in such a rush.”
Finally, Marcelo low, cold voice emerged. “I thought I was merely an unimportant person you can abandon whenever you want to.” His words implied disbelief that a wife would go on a trip without telling her husband.
Stunned by his accusation, Renee was speechless for a moment.
“No.No.You’re important to me.I just forgot to tell you.I’ve joined Peerless Grace’s crew,” she explained. “Your company helped me land the job. I assumed you knew.” She continued, “Remember when I was about to have dinner with Sarah? I thought you were informed then. I can’t believe no one mentioned my new job to you. Also, you’re always so busy. I didn’t want to bother you.”
On the other end, she heard the flick of a lighter. He was likely smoking. His mood was visibly unpleasant.
“So, this is my fault, is it?“His voice was cold.
“I didn’t mean that!” Renee’s voice carried a hint of urgency. She had become skilled at gently persuading him.” Look, it’s not really your fault, I’m sorry.”
But deep down, she knew it was her fault.
She had been so used to doing everything on her own and never telling anyone her plans but now, she has to get used to sharing things with her husband.
Marcelo responded with silence, ending the call with a calmness that was unsettling.

Renee’s attempt at apologizing clearly failed.
Staring at the now silent phone, she felt a nagging contradiction within her.
Could he really let her off this easily?
He hadn’t even uttered a single harsh word.
This wasn’t like Marcelo at all.
It felt like the unsettling calm before a storm, a thought that made Renee shiver with anxiety.
