Slowly, her eyes fluttered open, the sharp scent of hospital cleaners wrinkling her nose.
She immediately met Marcelo’s gaze.
Marcelo was just about to inquire if Renee was feeling unwell in any way when she spoke up.
“Did you come here with the divorce papers?" she inquired. Illness left her with a raspy voice. That was something Marcelo had momentarily forgotten.
“The papers aren't ready yet," he responded, his voice tight.
Because the lawyer hadn't even been notified to prepare them.
Renee couldn't help but think that if things were moving this slowly, maybe it was time for him to look for a new lawyer.
“Before I passed out, I saw you," She said. "If you're not with divorce papers, why were you there?"
She had assumed Marcelo left.
But the truth was, he had switched his car and followed her. From the hotel to her dorm, and then to her classroom this morning.
The way he behaved made him seem like a dreadful stalker.
Marcelo, however, didn't reply to her question. Instead, he got visibly upset by the memory.
“Renee, do you even know how to take care of yourself? Don't you know to go to the hospital when you're feeling sick? Can't you sense it when you've got a high fever? Do you want to harm yourself?"
“It's not your concern!" Renee shot back, her eyes flashing with anger.
How dare he!
“Who will look after you if I don't?" Marcelo let out a mocking laugh.
He leaned in close, his tone harsh and possessive. "Mrs. King, the only person responsible for you now is me."
Not Howard!
He had arranged a project for Howard to keep him busy, ensuring that Howard wouldn't have time to approach Renee for a while.
“Leave me alone!" Renee hissed.
At that moment, Daniel, who had come with Susanna to visit, walked in. He was just in time to witness Renee trying to shove Marcelo away. The sight of the IV needle causing her discomfort made his expression turn dark instantly.
