Renee was shocked by this request. She stared at him in astonishment, her lips slightly pursed. "Marcelo, I... I can't figure it out. Why don't you agree to a divorce?"

Unable to resist the temptation, she asked jokingly, "Is it because you love me?"

His Adam's apple bobbed, and his heart even skipped a beat.

“You're the only one who can be the perfect Mrs. King," he told her.

She was the only woman he wanted to be his wife, no one else.

Renee didn't say anything at first. Instead, she began to kick some stones that were near her feet as she ran his statement through her head.

So in his mind, she was just a trophy wife? She sneered, feeling foolish to continue holding onto the illusion that he might have feelings for her.

“But I don't want to be your perfect woman," she pointed out to him.

She just didn't want to occupy such a position in his life. What she wanted was something else entirely.

“Let's get divorced," she added in a tone of finality.

Marcelo felt as if he was being repeatedly provoked.

In that instant, his mind flashed back to Howard, who had been with Renee at the library studying and had followed her just moments before. Without thinking, he grabbed her chin.

“Renee, you're asking for a divorce because you've fallen for Howard, eh?" he growled.

His repeated mention of Howard annoyed Renee so much that she couldn't give a damn anymore about how he felt.

“Yes! So what? What if I love him?" she retorted defiantly. Almost instantly, she could see the effect of her statement. There were turbulent emotions swirling in his eyes like a dark tornado. "He's much better than you," she added, putting more salt to his wounds.

The Howard she knew would never get involved with other women while in a relationship. This was not something that could be said for Marcelo.

Renee took a deep breath and then exhaled slowly. She really wanted to settle this issue as quickly as possible.

“Marcelo, what will it take for you to agree to a divorce?" she asked him straightforwardly. "Someone of your status should not have any trouble finding the perfect Mrs. King. So you don't need to cling to me at all."
