Chapter 194 Outside the window
Renee instinctively looked outside the window.
Sure enough, the sleek, black sedan was parked in the same spot it had been that morning. Thanks to the floor–to–ceiling windows surrounding the library, she had perfect view of the entire car.
The passenger in the back seat could see her rather clearly, too.
Marcelo sat in brooding silence as he watched Renee from afar.
He had a mission when he left the office, but after getting here, he had no idea where or how
to even start.
No one had ever taught him how to apologize, let alone how to express his true feelings.
Renee had once told him that he could never give her what she wanted.
She had mentioned marital fidelity, something that Marcelo thought was a given, and had provided without question.
What else could she have meant?
Marcelo had thought long and hard about it, but he wasn’t sure he even understood what he was lacking in the first place.
He had been sitting in his car and staring at Renee for over two hours before she turned her head in his direction.
The car window was one–way glass, so she couldn’t have seen him.
But the moment her eyes fell on the window of the back seat, Marcelo felt as if her eyes had stripped him to his core, leaving him raw and vulnerable.
A wave of guilt hit him from out of nowhere, albeit with a trace of excitement that she had noticed him.
However, events unfolded in an unexpected manner.
Renee stood up, gathered her books and laptop, and moved to another spot behind the shelves.
He couldn’t see her anymore.
Marcelo blinked, his lips pressing into a thin line
She was angry.
It wasn’t an explosive rage, but more of a quiet indifference that usually followed extreme disappointment. She was shutting him out, and that somehow hurt more than if she yelled
and ranted at him.
Marcelo felt a weight pressing against his chest, choking his heart and making it hard for him to breathe.
Deep down, however, a voice reminded him that he had done this to himself.

After moving to a spot out of Marcelo’s view, Renee found it surprisingly difficult to focus on her work.
“Renee, are you feeling ill?” Howard asked in concern. He had quickly switched places with a student so he could sit beside Renee.
“No, I’m fine,” Renee assured him.
The Maybach was what was on her mind.
She just couldn’t understand why Marcelo’s car was there again.
Was he so idle? Didn’t he have anything to do at work?
Shouldn’t he be spending time with Vivian?
Well, frankly, the presence of his car shouldn’t concern her, as long as he wasn’t there because of her.
Throughout the afternoon, the Maybach remain parked outside the library.
Just as dusk was about to fall, Renee and Howard decided to leave the library.
“Renee, that looks like Mr. King’s car, right?” Howard remarked when he saw the Maybach.
“Is it? Well, I didn’t notice,” Renee lied with a shrug. She didn’t even glance at the Maybach. Howard found this surprising and he couldn’t help but break into a smile.
Renee had such a whimsical yet cute side to her.
When they got back to the dorm, Renee soon overheard Sarah as she talked to someone on the phone.
“Very often?” Sarah was asking in annoyance. “Just
“How does he know that I go to Rich tell him that you don’t know. Next time he comes, kick him out!”
“What happened?” Renee asked curiously after Sarah had ended the call.
“It’s Quincy,” Sarah told her. “Harry said he has been showing up at the Rich bar every night for two weeks now, even asking the bartender about when I usually come to the bar.”
Since she didn’t want to sound vain, Sarah didn’t say it, but she felt in her heart that Quincy’s nightly appearances at the Rich bar were for the purpose of possibly running into her one of these days.
After their relationship ended, Quincy had left the country for family business on behalf of the Rollins. A year later, he returned and frequently showed up around her.
All the while, Sarah deliberately avoided him, while Alma retired from figure skating the same year and got back with Quincy. Since then, Sarah hardly saw Quincy.
It had been almost three years since they broke up. Why was he suddenly looking for her now? When Renee saw how Sarah felt, she patted her on the shoulder and quickly changed the topic. “Shall we go and eat now?”
“Sure!” Sarah said excitedly, glad to have something to distract her mind from her current thoughts.
There was a famous snack street near the south gate of Bellbanks University. The duo enjoyed dinner there and even packed some snacks to be used as late–night treat.
But as they were returning to the dormitory,
Renee suddenly thought of something.
“Sarah, please wait for me,” she said to her.
