Save Her Lose Us (Evangeline and Soren) novel Chapter 411

Before he could speak, Evangeline said first, “Thank you. This makes us even.”

He had nearly gotten her killed before, and now he had taken a bullet for her. Neither of them owed the other anything anymore.

Soren had expected her to ask how he felt, if it hurt, or if there was anything he needed. But when he heard her words, his chest tightened, and the words he was about to say caught in his throat.

Even.

Was she that desperate to be rid of him?

Evangeline didn't overthink his unusual silence and got straight to the point. “They didn’t catch the shooter. He was well-prepared and must have planned his escape route in advance. For safety, they didn’t send anyone to pursue him.”

“They did a thorough investigation. He infiltrated the Fawkes family’s rescue team and was assigned to Arabella’s group.”

Soren was taken aback. Hearing that the man had infiltrated the Fawkes family’s rescue team naturally displeased him. He frowned, his tone dripping with sarcasm.

“They didn’t even catch him. So they just say he’s from the Fawkes family, and that makes it true?”

“What proof do they have?”

“An eyewitness,” Evangeline replied. “The person on his search team said they talked.”

So, no physical evidence?

Regardless of whether it was Glenn or Finn who proposed the idea that the killer was sent by the Fawkes family, Soren was furious that she believed it unconditionally without any solid proof.

He wanted to demand why she didn't suspect that The Lockridges and Glenn had conspired to frame the Fawkes family.

But as the words reached his lips, he swallowed them back down.

Evangeline saw his already pale face turn even paler as he stared at her, his dark eyes a mixture of defiance and complexity.

There was still a hint of fire in them.
