Finn let out a quiet, heavy sigh.
The nurse was immediately cowed by his words.
She knew he belonged to a terrifyingly powerful family. She frantically swore herself to secrecy and handed over the drops.
"I'll keep my mouth shut, but you have to promise me you'll consult with top specialists in this field."
After she scurried away, Finn stared down the corridor.
His vision was still swimming, as if a thick layer of white fog coated his eyes. He closed them tight and exhaled deeply.
"It'll be fine," he muttered into the silence.
...
Seven days ago, after fleeing the office in tears, Lily had been in a complete daze.
Theo Shaw's words had echoed relentlessly in her ears.
"Lily, I believe in your talent. It wasn't easy for you to climb this high. I don't want you throwing your career away by doing something stupid over your personal life."
"Confess everything about the data leak, and the company will show leniency. But if you insist on being stubborn... leaking corporate secrets is a fatal offense. Once the investigation concludes, your career will be utterly destroyed, and not even I will be able to save you."
Even Theo didn't believe her anymore.
Lily realized how catastrophic the situation had become.
Her mind was a chaotic mess.
Instead of heading straight home, her feet unconsciously dragged her toward Fawkes Tower. She desperately needed to find her boyfriend, Frank, and figure out a solution.
But the moment she approached the café on the ground floor, she spotted Frank and Poppy Yates sitting at a corner table.
Frank was sliding a velvet ring box across the table toward Poppy. He was wearing a ridiculously ecstatic, disgustingly fawning smile that Lily had never seen before.
The glass pane wasn't completely soundproof, and Lily managed to catch fragments of their conversation.
"Ms. Yates, don't worry. The UME data leak is fully handled. I've completely reverse-engineered their core technology. A little repackaging, and it's foolproof."
"Does your previous promise still stand?" Frank stared at Poppy, his gaze dripping with greedy lust.
Poppy definitely noticed his stare, but she didn't shrink away.
She caught sight of Lily out of the corner of her eye, quickly looked back, and offered a coy smile. "I heard you have a girlfriend. Aren't you worried she'll find out?"
Taking her teasing tone as an invitation, Frank felt a jolt of sheer excitement.
