Wayne looked at Lilian and said, "Remember, you're the one telling me to speak. I'm not trying to stir up trouble on purpose."
Lilian nodded. "Just say it. Stop stalling. Don't you think I know what kind of person you are by now?"
Wayne finally spoke, his voice cautious. "Well, while I was on a business trip in Murica, I heard a lot of rumors about Mr. Whitmore. Everyone is saying that Mr. Whitmore of Austine Financial Group is going to be married to Miss Everly of the Cary estate."
"What did you say?" Lilian asked, her voice tight with shock.
Seeing her reaction, Wayne looked instantly regretful. "I knew I shouldn't have told you. Maybe I misheard. Why don't you just ask Mr. Whitmore? He's the one involved; he should know the whole story."
Lilian's gaze turned chillingly cold. "Tell me exactly what you heard. Every word."
Seeing the resolve in her eyes, Wayne lowered his voice and continued. "Fine. If you insist. The word all over Murica is that a marriage alliance between the Austin family and the Cary estate is imminent. The stars of this union are Mr. Sebastian and Miss Everly. I wasn't sure if it was true, so I did some digging. They say it's essentially a done deal. No media outlet would dare report on Austin family matters unless they had the approval of the man in charge. No one has the guts to spread rumors like that without authorization."
"Everly," Lilian said, her voice laced with ice.
Wayne nodded. "Yes, Everly. I wouldn't forget a name like that. Apparently, she's the lady of the Cary estate and a famous beauty in Murican high society. Do you know her?"
Lilian let out a cold laugh. "How could I not? Out of all of Sebastian’s many admirers, she’s the only one arrogant enough to claim the title of his fiancée."
