“You incompetent fool! How could the base catch fire?” George roared into the phone. “I told you to watch that place. How does a facility with no open ignition sources just burst into flames?”
Lynette’s voice trembled with terror. “I don’t know! It’s like the fire started out of nowhere. Everyone is scrambling to get out, and it’s absolute chaos. What do we do?”
George felt the walls closing in. The company was crumbling, the news was shredding his reputation, and now his secret stronghold was going up in smoke. For a moment, his mind went blank.
Suddenly, a massive explosion rocked the other end of the line, followed by Lynette’s piercing scream.
“What was that?” George demanded, his voice tight with anxiety.
“Something blew up!” Lynette shrieked. “Sir, what do we do? If we don’t get this under control now, it’ll be too late!”
A dark realization struck George. “Find Lillian! Keep your eyes on her and do not let her escape. If you see even the slightest sign that she’s trying to run, shoot her on sight. If I can’t have her talents, no one will.”
Since the world already knew he had taken her, he decided to burn the bridge entirely. If he couldn’t keep her, he would erase her. As long as there was no victim to testify, they couldn’t touch him.
“Understood,” Lynette replied.
George hung up and stared at his phone, his eyes dark with malice. “Sebastian, Lillian… you forced my hand. If I’m going down, I’m taking everyone with me.”
He turned to his driver. “Get to the base. Now! Drive like hell!”
“Yes, sir!” The driver slammed the accelerator, and the car roared forward.
A short distance behind them, another vehicle followed discreetly.
Inside, Foster glanced at Sebastian. “Are you certain George is heading to the base?”
Sebastian’s lips curled into a chilling smile. “A cornered dog will always bark. With the city screaming for his head, where else would he go? He needs to secure his only leverage.”
“Do you think he plans to release her secretly?” Foster asked.

“Release her? No, Sebastian said, his gaze turning to ice. “If I know George, he’ll use Leonard to force Lillian’s hand. He wants her to come forward and ‘explain‘ that this was all a misunderstanding.”
Foster nodded as the pieces clicked into place. “see”
Sebastian looked out the window at the giant digital billboards broadcasting the Mildew scandal. “Call Unno. Send him the coordinates. Tell him to bring every member of the media he can find. The whole city is looking for George–let’s be good citizens and help them find him.”
“Right away, sir,” Foster said, dialing the number
Meanwhile, at the research base.
