Foster hesitated before answering. “From the surveillance footage we saw a child dropped it off. Our men tracked the kid down but he just said some man gave him a hundred bucks to mail it. Based on his description we checked the cameras in that area. There was a man but he was completely covered up. Hooded masked the works. What is even stranger is that in the same timeframe and area several other people were dressed exactly the same way. It was impossible to tell which one was our guy.”

Sebastian’s expression was cold as he absently turned the ring on his finger. He had to admit whoever was behind this was incredibly cunning. They had planned for every detail.

“Keep digging” he ordered.

“Understood” Foster replied. “And what about the news being leaked? Do you want me to scrub the stories about your father’s return?”

Sebastian rubbed his temples. “Don’t bother. Everyone who matters already knows. It is too late to put that genie back in the bottle. Besides having the news out there might not be a bad thing. It might flush whoever is hiding in the shadows out into the open. I have already sent Unno to watch them so just leave it be.”

He hadn’t expected the news of his father’s return to blow up so fast. They had only visited the hospital that morning and yet the leak hit the public before he could even react.

Over the next few days Derrick and Uriel visited the hospital daily. They expected the person in the shadows to make another move but everything remained eerily quiet. It was starting to feel like the calm before a storm.

Meanwhile at Kingston University.

Lilian handed two invitations to Elsie and Isabelle. “Here they are. The invitations you have been dying for.”

The two girls snatched them up their eyes lighting up. “Thank you so much Lilian! Seriously you are a lifesaver.”

Elsie stared at the elegant script on the card. “You have no idea how much I have wanted to go to an Empire Group anniversary gala. My dad says the absolute elite of Kingston show up. The kind of power players you never see in person. I finally get to see what it is like this year.”

Lilian laughed. “Is it really that big of a deal? Cameron is one of those power players and you don’t seem this excited when you see him. Besides you could have just gone as his guest. Why did you insist on having your own invitation?”

Elsie carefully tucked the card into her bag. “It is not the same. If I go with him I am just his plus one. If I go with my own invite i am there as myself. One is an accessory the other is an independent person. See the difference?”

Lilian shook her head with a smile. “Alright I can’t argue with that logic. Just be careful once you are there. Don’t go picking fights or getting yourself into trouble. I can’t promise I will be able to look after you every second.”

“Don’t worry” Elsie chirped. “Isabelle and I are just going to find a quiet corner and stay there for the food. We won’t cause any trouble i promise.”

“I will keep an eye on her Isabelle added looking at her invitation with a mix of nerves and excitement. “This is my first time at such a high end event. I am actually kind of vibrating. Do I need a gown?”
