Chapter 19
Pierre sat across from her, in the chair behind the desk.
Jensina felt the pressure mounting, each prescription needing to pass through Pierre’s careful scrutiny.
Meriu
The patient had been referred by a friend, and he joked, “Dr. Warren, with you looking over my prescription like this, I’m starting to think I must be quite ill.”
The patients all knew that Pierre was both her and Eduardo’s teacher.
Pierre chuckled and said, “Don’t worry, she specializes in tough cases. This is just a minor issue for her. She still thinks of herself as a little kid
when she’s in front of me.”
He glanced briefly at the prescription before handing it back to Jensina.
Over the years, Jensina had been the most talented person he’d encountered in traditional medicine.
If it hadn’t been for Vanessa’s suppression, Jensina’s progress would have far surpassed where she was now–by a hundred, maybe even a
thousand times.
She wouldn’t have had to hide behind the scenes, too afraid to put her name on a medicine she developed.
Pierre said, “Your thinking is right, and the dosage is just right. One dose should do the trick.”
The patient’s colonoscopy report showed severe colitis. After trying both traditional and modern medicine without success, they had come to Jensina as a last resort.
After checking the pulse, Jensina concluded that the cause was excessive anxiety, not inflammation, so she prescribed the opposite approach–no anti–inflammatory medicine, but a method to relieve the anxiety instead.
The patient, initially unsure, now beamed with relief.“Dr. Warren, I’ll make sure to bring you a banner next time!”
Jensina quickly waved her hand. “I’d rather you don’t need to come back. But remember to stay happy. There’s nothing more important than your health.”
According to the efficacy of the medicine, after seven doses of traditional medicine, the patient would be well on his way to recovery. But as a doctor, she couldn’t promise anything too soon.
Once she finished with the last patient, Pierre stood up and said, “Let’s go. My wife’s making dinner.”
“Looks like Eduardo and I will be in for a treat again.”
Shanna, a meticulous cook, always prepared dishes she knew Jensina would love.
Eduardo was waiting for them by the car.
Pierre only visited the clinic once a month, and because of Jensina’s request, Eduardo had seized the opportunity to discuss cases with him along the way.
Pierre, getting a little tired of the questioning, glanced sideways at Eduardo. “Sina never treats me like a fool.”
Eduardo didn’t mind. Through the rearview mirror, he smiled warmly at Jensina and said, “Sina’s been learning from you for how many years now? I should probably be calling her ‘Senior.“”
That was the truth.
Pierre was just Eduardo’s professor at university, but Jensina had been learning from him since she was a child.
He had always favored Jensina. He retired only after she was accepted to UCLA, bringing her all the way through to graduation before stepping back..
After that, no matter how many times the school or the Department of Education tried, they couldn’t get him to return.
Jensina was Pierre’s only true disciple.

Jensina didn’t have the guts to have Eduardo call her ‘Senior‘. She smiled and replied, “You can call me ‘Senior,‘ but I wouldn’t dare to acknowledge.”
As they chatted, the car stopped in front of Pierre’s house.
It was an old but quiet neighborhood, with spacious gaps between houses, allowing each villa to receive plenty of light.
Hearing the car engine, Shanna came out to greet them.“Sina, Eduardo, you two haven’t been here in a while.”
She was in good health, glowing with vitality, looking not a day over fifty.
Eduardo had prepared gifts in advance when he heard they were coming.
As Jensina helped him carry them, she smiled brightly.“Shanna, I’ll definitely be visiting more often. Don’t chase me away.”
No longer Mrs. Hardwick, she would have a lot more free time.
“Oh, I’d love that,” Shanna said happily.
Shanna had only one son and had always treated Jensina, who had grown up with her husband, like her daughter.
Hearing this, Jensina felt a little lighter, pleased by Shanna’s kindness.
Pierre called them inside, but then Shanna suddenly remembered something.“Oh, by the way, we have a guest today.”
Her gaze briefly flickered away from Jensina.
“Who’s here?”
At Pierre’s level, guests needed to confirm their visits a week in advance.
From the way Shanna acted, it seemed this wasn’t a relative.
But this person hadn’t called in advance, wasn’t their relative, and had just walked in uninvited.
Pierre, curious, glanced inside as Shanna answered, “Mr. Herring. Seems like he wants to discuss a pharmaceutical project with you.”
Jensina’s back stiffened for a moment.
As Pierre looked back at her, she quickly regained her composure.
Pierre, seeing her calm expression, patted her on the shoulder and said, “If you’re uncomfortable, I’ll have him leave before dinner.”
“I’m fine.”
Since she had run into Stanley in Germany, Jensina had already prepared herself for the possibility.
If they could meet in a foreign country, meeting again here wasn’t strange.
Stanley was now a powerful man, emotionally distant as always, and there was no need for Pierre to lower his stance because of her.

Pierre, sensing her calmness, patted her shoulder. “It’s good you’ve come to terms with it. After all, he’s your brother, and he might have his own
reasons…”
Jensina’s eyes lowered, and she quietly interrupted, “Let’s go inside.”
Over the years, Pierre wasn’t the first to say such things to her.
Jensina thought, “If Stanley truly had unspoken struggles, why hadn’t he shared them with me? Instead, he had silently distanced himself, pushing me away as if I were a burden.”
Thinking back to Vanessa’s words, they seemed to ring true.
*Stan has always been a temperamental mess. When he’s in a good mood, he’ll keep a pet cat or dog. When he’s tired of it, he’ll throw it out like trash. It’s no surprise.
Pierre, sensing her thoughts, didn’t say more.“Let’s go in.”
Before they entered, the atmosphere in the house seemed lighter.

Eduardo, who had met Stanley briefly at the Traditional Medicine Research Institute, naturally struck up a conversation with him under Shanna’s introduction
“Sina, Eduardo waved at her as she entered. “This is Mr. Herring. We met in Germany a few days ago.”
Stanley stood tall, his eyes as cold as ever, his expression devoid of emotion.
As the sun set, its orange glow filtered through the windows, softening the natural air of authority Stanley always carried, though he still seemed distant and aloof.
Jensina’s fingertip lightly brushed across her palm as she spoke softly, “Nice to meet you, Mr. Herring.”
“Mr. Herring, this is Jensina, my university junior. She’s very talented,” Eduardo said proudly, almost like he was defending her against Stanley’s possible indifference. “Even though she’s a junior, she’s just like a sister to me.”
For Eduardo, who was the heir to Faulkner Pharmaceuticals, those words carried weight, as if he were vouching for her.
Stanley raised an eyebrow, a smile barely playing on his lips as he greeted her.“Oh, she’s my sister, too. Nice to meet you.”
To Jensina, it sounded almost mocking. She drew a cold line, replying, “Mr. Herring, you flatter me.”

Her usual gentle demeanor was absent, and the sharpness in her voice didn’t go unnoticed by Eduardo. He sensed the tension between them, but before he could speak, Pierre cut in.
“Come on, dinner’s ready. Let’s try some of Shanna’s cooking.”
Looking at Stanley, he added, “You haven’t had a meal at my place in years, have you?”
The tone in Pierre’s voice was loaded with meaning.
At Stanley’s level, everyone around him either fawned over him or tried to appease him. No one would dare speak to him like this.
Eduardo’s heart skipped a beat, but Stanley simply smiled and said, “I was just worried I’d be kicked out before I got to eat.”
Pierre raised an eyebrow.“Looks like you’re not so naïve after all.”
“Alright, enough talking. Let’s eat.”
Shanna came to the rescue, placing the dishes on the long dining table.
Jensina set the table and poured wine into each glass, the clinking of glasses mingling with the soft hum of conversation.
Pierre, a lover of traditional medicine, still enjoyed an occasional drink.
As Jensina took her seat beside Shanna, she couldn’t help but notice that Stanley had conveniently taken the seat directly across from her.
Pierre and Shanna had never been particularly fond of Jensina’s marriage. They had watched her grow up, and knowing she wasn’t truly accepted by Coleman, they couldn’t be happy for her.
When they heard the news of her divorce, they didn’t waste any time setting up a celebration dinner.
Looking at Jensina, Shanna raised her glass, her smile warm.“I heard from Pierre that you’re getting a divorce. I think you’ve made the right choice, and I believe you’ll find happiness again.”
