Once a Doormat Now Untouchable (Caleb and Sydney) novel Chapter 766

Stanley's eyes blazed with anger the moment he heard those words.

He lunged forward, jabbing a finger at Tiffany's face as he roared, "What the hell kind of thing is that to say?! He's your brother! Your own flesh and blood! You'd stand there and watch his hand get cut off before you'd pay? Are you even human?"

"Whether I'm human or not, you decided that more than 20 years ago." Tiffany met Stanley's glare. "If you really cared about him, why didn't you stop him before he got himself into debt?"

Her words brought Stanley up short.

A beat later, he shouted even louder, "He's your brother! So his debt is mine to pay?"

Tiffany remained calm. In an even, measured voice, she asked, "Be honest with yourself. While he was growing up, did you ever teach him what it meant to take responsibility?"

The question hit its mark. Stanley's face flushed crimson, and for a moment, he could not find a single word to say.

Beside him, Mabel wiped away her tears. "Tiff, please. Do it for your mother's sake. I swear I'll never bother you again after this, all right? Your brother really knows he was wrong..."

Tiffany remained silent.

Watching the family drama unfold, the man in the leather jacket finally ran out of patience. He snapped his folding knife shut and stepped toward Tiffany.

"Miss Voss, I don't care about your family problems. I care about my money. Your brother owes me the principal plus interest. If you can't pay today, the amount is only going to keep growing." His voice was quiet, yet it carried far more menace than all of Stanley's shouting. "I looked into you. You're a lawyer. You make good money. Figure it out. You should be able to come up with the cash."

"Whether I can come up with it is my business." Tiffany held his gaze without flinching. "He can repay the money he owes himself."

"He can't pay it back right now." The man in the leather jacket grinned, revealing a gold tooth. "Then he'll have to make up for it another way. For instance, I heard the apartment you live in Miss Voss is in a pretty nice location."

Tiffany's expression turned icy. "That apartment belongs to a friend of mine. It has nothing to do with him, and it has nothing to do with me."
