Raymond spent two days in Norchester, ironing out most of the partnership details with Hugo.

Only a few technical issues remained. Their respective technical teams would need to develop concrete proposals before the project could move forward.

That evening, Hugo hosted a dinner in Raymond's honor. They ate and talked together.

Hugo remained a man of few words, but every so often he tossed out a harmless joke. He seemed far more at ease than he had been when they first met.

Halfway through the meal, Raymond's phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID and immediately stepped away to answer it.

Whatever he heard on the other end made his expression turn instantly cold. "Her brother? What has he done this time?"

His subordinate braced himself before replying, "He got beaten up again. This time, the creditors went straight to Miss Voss."

"Is she all right?" Raymond asked, his eyes hardening. "Didn't I tell you to keep a closer watch on her? How did they get to her house?"

"I let my guard down." The mistake was entirely his, so the subordinate could only endure Raymond's anger. "Miss Voss is probably shaken, but she isn't hurt. What should we do next?"

Raymond glanced across the table at Hugo before walking to the window.

Lowering his voice, he issued a stern warning. "I'm flying back tonight. Stay with her until I land. If anything else happens to her, you can consider yourself finished."

"Yes, sir," the subordinate replied immediately. "Rest assured, Raymond. Nothing else will go wrong."

After ending the call, Raymond returned to the table and sat down.

Hugo looked at him but did not ask for details. "You need to head back to Jouleston, Ray?"

"Yes. Something came up at home." Raymond picked up his coat. "I owe you this meal. We'll finish it another day. As for the rest of the project… I'll have my sister handle it."

He slipped on his coat. "She already has a meeting in Norchester next week."
