Once a Doormat Now Untouchable (Caleb and Sydney) novel Chapter 797

Diana let out a soft laugh as she chatted with Sydney and waited for James to come over.

James was leaving the next day for an overseas project inspection, so he needed to go over the group's affairs with Raymond beforehand.

Sydney glanced toward the two brothers as well, but a figure beneath the covered walkway caught her eye.

Charlotte leaned against one of the pillars, one hand resting lightly over her stomach. Her face looked pale beneath the porch light.

Sydney excused herself from Diana and hurried over. "Are you feeling unwell?"

Her voice pulled Charlotte back to the present. By the time Charlotte looked up, she had already hidden most of her discomfort behind a smile.

"I'm fine." Charlotte quickly changed the subject. "I should get going too. You two get some rest."

But Sydney had already noticed how white her fingertips had turned. "Is it your stomach?"

Charlotte opened her mouth to brush it off, but when she met Sydney's soft, unusually earnest gaze, the words caught in her throat.

"It's an old problem." She let out a quiet breath. "Probably because I haven't been eating regularly lately. It's nothing serious, though."

Sydney frowned. "Let me have someone drive you home."

"No need to trouble anyone. I can manage."

"Wait here a second." Sydney gave her no chance to refuse and turned to call the driver.

She had barely taken a step when steady footsteps sounded behind her. Someone strode past and stopped in front of Charlotte.

James' gaze lingered on her pale face for a moment.

"You drove here yourself, didn't you?" His tone remained calm.

Charlotte blinked in surprise and started to answer, but another wave of dull pain struck without warning. She winced and pressed her fingers more firmly against her stomach.

James noticed immediately.

Florence heard the commotion and rolled down the car window. "What's going on? Is someone unwell?"

"It's nothing," James answered briefly.

He turned to Diana. "Diana, you and Mom go on ahead. Don't wait for me."
