Once a Doormat Now Untouchable (Caleb and Sydney) novel Chapter 767

Raymond glanced at his phone. "Your boss's name is Rex Luther? Bald, got out of prison two years ago, keeps a dozen or so men under him, and makes his living through loans and debt collection."

He spoke casually, but the color slowly drained from the leather-jacketed man's face.

"How do you know?!"

"I know a lot more than that." Raymond lifted his gaze to him. "Your boss was taught a lesson last month and has already made it clear he's staying away from Jouleston jobs. Yet here you are, walking straight into the line of fire."

The man in the leather jacket swallowed hard. He stared at Raymond for several long seconds before asking cautiously, "Are you... from the Hutton family?"

Raymond neither confirmed nor denied it. He simply gave his phone a slight shake, his voice calm and indifferent. "Want me to call your boss right now? Have him come collect his men himself?"

The man in the leather jacket fell silent. A fine sheen of sweat formed across his forehead.

He had survived this long by knowing how to read a situation. The youngest Hutton heir might not be a household name in Jouleston's business circles, but among people who operated in the gray areas, his reputation hit like thunder.

"I didn't have the full picture of what happened today." The man in the leather jacket slipped the folding knife into his pocket and gave Raymond a stiff nod, forcing an awkward smile. "Mr. Hutton, my apologies for the disturbance. We'll be on our way."

He turned and shot his two companions a look. The three of them slunk out without another word.

As he passed Tyler, the man in the leather jacket suddenly stopped. He glanced down at him and said coldly, "Kid, you're lucky. You've got yourself one hell of a brother-in-law. Next time you set foot in our territory, we won't be nearly this easy to talk to."

With that, he led the others out without looking back. Their hurried footsteps echoed through the corridor before fading into the stairwell.

The living room fell silent. The incandescent bulb hummed faintly overhead.

Tyler still knelt on the floor. Stanley stood frozen, and the tear tracks on Mabel's face had yet to dry.

Tiffany stood where she was, staring at the floor.
