Noelle's eyes were so full of mockery that Donovan could barely meet her gaze. He turned his head and muttered, "If I hadn't said that, would you have agreed to come back to the Liddell family?"
"That's right, Noelle. Donovan and I have been running around in circles these days. We want to find out the truth about that car accident as soon as possible and bring the culprit to justice. The more people working together, the better, right?"
"That means you didn't get anything out of Xenia, did you?"
Frank replied somewhat embarrassedly, "These past two days, Donovan and I have been dealing with Liddell Corporation's financial issues. The company faced a serious cash shortfall after Xenia transferred that sum of money.
"We're currently trying to raise funds to help the company through this difficult period."
Wyatt was shocked when he heard that. "Frank, is the company really in crisis? I mean, Xenia moving that money shouldn't have a big impact, right? Isn't our family pretty rich?"
Donovan looked slightly exasperated. "Liddell Corporation is wealthy, but it's lacking cash flow. Xenia suddenly embezzled such a large amount, but we can't easily pull out such a huge sum of money at once."
"But the company must have more than that amount, right? There should be other ways to deal with it."
"There are other projects in progress. If those projects don't get their required funding, problems will just keep snowballing. Liddell Corporation could be dragged down with it. Do you understand?"
Right now, Donovan deeply regretted trusting Xenia so much. He should have had someone keep an eye on her. If he had, she never would have gotten the chance to steal the money.
Wyatt began to panic at Donovan's words. If Liddell Corporation did go bankrupt, what would he live on? He'd never want to live a poor man's life.
"What are we going to do, Donovan? You have to come up with a plan."
"Shut up. If you can't help, at least don't make things worse. And stop shouting. If you hadn't insisted on marrying Xenia, I never would've trusted her so easily in the first place."
Donovan was a little resentful of Wyatt now. If the latter hadn't wanted to marry Xenia so badly, none of this would've happened.
Wyatt's face flushed with anger, and he shouted, "What's that supposed to mean? Are you looking down on me now? Am I dragging you down?
