What a joke. It seemed to be about time for Laura and the Merlocks to start paying the price. After the car drove off, Cedric finally withdrew his gaze. Laura was nearly in tears at this point. She'd never suffered such humiliation.

She quickly collected herself and pitifully said, "Ced, your mom arranged a huge team to help me, but I'm still scared. Will you come with me?"

Cedric withdrew his hands and coldly asked, "Why did your mom go missing?"

"I don't know either. The kidnappers hadn't called to demand a ransom. I heard she disappeared from a spa, but so far, there's no clue of her leaving the place. I think the kidnappers might still be hiding inside and are too scared to leave."

Cedric thought for a moment, and a plan popped into his mind. He followed Laura upstairs, where the people Emma had arranged were searching the area.

Laura spotted the Merlock family staff and rushed over to ask for updates.

Cedric took out his phone and texted Tilly. It was time for him to start probing the Merlock family, and he wanted to know why Ruth had orchestrated everything back then.

Soon, Laura received a message from the kidnappers. In a panic, she rushed over to Cedric and exclaimed, "Ced, the kidnappers sent a message!"

"What did they say?"

"They said my mom owes them money. They did something for her more than ten years ago, but she went back on her word and refused to pay them."

Cedric raised an eyebrow. "What did your mom do over ten years ago?"

"How would I know? My dad's coming soon. Maybe he knows something. Cedric, do you think something bad will happen to her?" She was trembling all over.

"If your mom didn't do anything wrong, nothing will happen to her." Cedric's gaze was sharp and probing as he stared at Laura.

She dared not meet his eyes as she wasn't entirely sure herself. She definitely couldn't admit anything in front of Cedric. No matter what Ruth had done, it must have been for the good of the Merlock family.
