No longer a pushover (Noelle and Cedric) novel Chapter 1502

"Are there any other casualties?" Eugene asked as he turned to glance at the firefighter.

"A few more, about five or six dead in total, but most weren't killed by the blast and were poisoned by the gas leakage. So, my advice is not to go in there."

"Even if you reach the top floor now, it wouldn't change anything." Eugene pointed out as he turned to Cedric, who walked away without a word and sat on the sand outside.

Eugene noticed the firefighters had cheap, worn-out gear, and some lacked gas masks. Clearly, the local department wasn't well-equipped.

He looked at the firefighter who'd just spoken and said, "I've got extra masks and fire suits on my yacht, so feel free to take them."

"No need," the firefighter said, clearly having his guard up.

"It isn't for free, of course," Eugene said as he stepped closer. "If you find anything on this island or discover any clues, bring it to me first."

The firefighter visibly relaxed. "Do you have a grudge with whoever was running this island?"

"Yes, and I want to know where they ran off to."

"Alright, understood." The firefighter nodded.

After they exchanged numbers, Eugene said, "You'll probably be clearing debris for days, so feel free to take our provided masks and suits. My friend here can afford it."

The firefighter's eyes flicked to Cedric sitting on the sand. His superiors had called to inform him that a group would visit the island, and he was to refrain from blocking and offending them.

He'd been annoyed and expected them to be difficult, but they were surprisingly cooperative.

With that, he arranged for his crew to collect the provided gear. The department's budget was thin, and half their masks were cracked. Even so, they'd braced themselves and showed up anyway to deal with the wreckage.
