By the time she woke up again, Noelle still felt as if everything had been a dream. She would have convinced herself that it was just a dream if it were not for seeing Cedric right in front of her.
She stared at the man before her and gently touched his face.
Cedric opened his eyes and looked at her. "You're awake?"
"Yeah. You still haven't told me how you found me, by the way. Carl made me fake my death to fool all of you."
Cedric's expression darkened slightly at the mention of Carl. "He told you that?"
He did not expect Carl to tell Noelle about her own funeral.
The ill intentions behind such a decision were as clear as day. But what Cedric could not understand was why Carl would use such a tactic on his very own sister.
Noelle looked up at Cedric and replied, "Yeah, he didn't hide it from me at all. I guess he wanted me to just give up on you completely. You still haven't answered my question, you know? When exactly did you realize that something was wrong?"
She was genuinely curious about the answer, as she had been doubting and struggling with her own thoughts, wondering whether Cedric had already discovered her whereabouts.
Cedric explained, "Ever since you disappeared from the van in the parking lot. I suspected the Liddells from that very moment. I even went to their house to look for you, but Carl had beaten me to it and sent you away."
So it turned out that Cedric had already figured it out that early on, and for whatever reason, hearing that made Noelle feel a lot better.
She then replied, "Carl was the first person I saw from back when I was in the van. I thought that he was there to save me, but I didn't expect him to save me only to send me away to the island."
Carl had saved her only to send her away into a new hell to live in. There was hardly any difference from what Noelle had just been through.
