Mia's mood visibly lightened after receiving Noelle's updates, and she probed. "But why would Carl even do this? What's the point of keeping Noelle locked up on that island?"
Eugene calmly said, "Cedric's worried about that, too, so once the funeral is done, we'll start planning how to get her out of there."
"I want to go with you."
"No, you can't get involved in that part. You have your role to play when the time comes, so we shall all work together to keep her safe.
"Right now, we can't let the Liddells realize we know where Noelle is."
Mia nodded. "I understand."
Glancing at the files on her desk, Eugene asked, "Is the trial coming up soon?"
"That's right. I'm going to the detention center myself."
At the mention of this, Mia's expression turned ice-cold. Ivy was the reason behind Noelle's predicament, and if it weren't for her, Carl wouldn't have gotten the chance to take Noelle away in the first place.
…
The next day, Mia went straight to the detention center. She wore black on purpose today, as if she were attending a funeral.
Soon, Ivy was brought in, and the first thing she asked when she saw Mia was, "Is Eason alright?"
"What do you think? The doctors did all they could."
"What do you mean they did all they could?" Ivy panicked. Her eyes flickered to Mia's black clothes, and a terrible gut feeling struck her. "What happened to Eason?"
"He's dead. The funeral's tomorrow."
Upon hearing that, Ivy's knees nearly gave out. "No way! That's impossible! You're lying to me, aren't you!"
