At that moment, Noelle was also thinking of Cedric and wondered how he was holding up right now. Was he foolishly convinced that she was dead and grieving himself to death?
Just that thought made it hard for her to breathe. She looked out the window at the endless ocean and silently vowed to get in contact with the outside world.
…
The next day, Noelle roamed around the labs again. She knew that if she was ever going to escape, she needed to see every inch of this place by heart and memorize all the door passcodes.
After she'd finished snooping, she went to lie on the beach. She wanted as many people as possible to see her and ensure that the contact Cedric had planted on the island would notice her.
When Cedric started suspecting something one day, this island would be the first place he'd think to check, and they'd find her here.
While she was sunbathing, Carl approached her and asked, "Are you bored?"
"What do you think? No phones and no TV, so what else am I supposed to do?"
He sat down beside her and showed her his phone. "Take a look at the news. Today's your funeral, but Cedric barred the press from entering, so no one has any idea how it's going now."
Hearing that, Noelle immediately leaned in to look at his phone and noticed the news about her funeral. There was even a photograph taken outside the funeral home's parking lot.
In the photograph, Cedric was seen dressed in a black suit with his sharp features wearing an emotionless expression. Her friends were there too.
Emma and Anastasia were both dressed in black, and the former's eyes were red as if she'd been crying nonstop. Seeing this almost crushed Noelle. She grabbed Carl's phone and bolted, desperately trying to dial Cedric's number.
If she could just call him, he'd know she was alive and wouldn't have to be in so much pain. Noelle remembered Cedric's number by heart, but when she tried to dial, she realized there was no signal at all.
She stared at her phone, stunned. How was that even possible?
