No longer a pushover (Noelle and Cedric) novel Chapter 1423

Samantha replied somewhat helplessly, "This info is worth money to Mia, Mom."

"Mia?" Ruth looked visibly confused.

Samantha quickly told her about what had happened with Laura just now, and Ruth snorted. "That idiot sister of yours did all the dirty work and looked so glamorous, but nobody knew how pathetic she was. She could never be as sharp as I am."

Samantha remembered how Ruth had been so eager to flatter and suck up to Laura before PZ Group blew up. Sure enough, no one could ever compare to how fast Ruth turned hostile.

Ruth narrowed her eyes at Samantha and continued, "You'd better ask for more money."

"Noelle's dead, and Mia could easily just stiff me and not pay, so hurry up and spill the secrets! What good is it taking to the grave with you?"

"Watch how you talk to your mother!" Ruth snapped. Then, she compromised and said, "Fine, I'll tell you.

"I don't know exactly which noble it was, just that he's a duke from Zepher. I heard the duke had several wives, all of whom died mysteriously, except her, who was the only one who survived.

"I don't remember his name. It was foreign and hard to pronounce."

"That's it? Nothing else?" Samantha pressed.

"That's it."

Looking a little disappointed, Samantha got up to leave. Ruth called after her, "Come visit me more often just to chat, will you?"

However, Samantha didn't look back. Ruth could only grumble under her breath, but she dared not curse too harshly since Samantha was all she could rely on now.

Who would have thought that it'd be Samantha, the daughter she'd always looked down on, who'd end up taking care of her? And now, Laura, the daughter she'd carefully groomed for years, was rotting in jail, too.

That was just absurd.
