Cedric's heart missed a beat when he heard Emma's question. How did she sense something was off?
As Anastasia caught on, she jabbed a finger at Cedric's face and snapped, "If you dare lie to me about such a big deal, I swear I'll break your legs myself!"
Cedric could only force a bitter smile. "I'm not lying to you."
Now wasn't the time to reveal the truth, so even if Anastasia might break his legs after she found out, he wouldn't regret it.
Emma sobbed into her hands after receiving his affirmative answer. "I just can't accept this… How could something like this happen to her out of nowhere?
"We can't let those damned kidnappers get away with it… The whole lot of them are bastards!"
Anastasia had lived a long life, but she'd never hated anyone so fiercely as she did now.
Alfred rubbed his temples as he felt a headache coming on. "Both of you should get some rest for now. We'll all attend the funeral together in two days."
It was only now that Emma helped Anastasia up to her feet to leave the room. But before they walked out, she turned to look at Cedric chugging down his wine and reminded him.
"Don't drink too much. You should take care of your health, too." She'd never seen him look so beaten down and reek of alcohol, his demeanor tired and worn.
As the two women left, Anastasia sighed deeply. "What are we gonna do now? Ced had never been able to let go after that car crash, and now that he's finally found happiness with Noelle, this happened. I'm so worried about him."
Emma nodded. "I know what you're worried about, but he'll get through this."
But deep down, she had her doubts. Cedric did look like a wreck and hadn't set foot in the office for some time, but after seeing him up close, he hadn't seemed heartbroken at all.
She knew his feelings for Noelle ran deep and had seen him turn the whole of Yasnia upside down, just to search for her. He'd even let the press smear him as some arrogant tyrant abusing his power, just for the kidnapping.
If Noelle were truly dead, given Cedric's temper, he would have flown abroad and razed that scam center to the ground, rather than sit here quietly planning a funeral.
