HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 907

"So that question should really be mine," Cale said with a cynical scoff.

Hector responded with a faint smile. He simply gestured toward the empty chair across from him. "Have a seat."

Cale didn't move. "I didn't come here for coffee."

"I know." Hector remained calm. He lifted his coffee cup, took a small sip, then carefully set it back down on its saucer.

"Then don't waste my time."

Hector slowly raised his eyes. "Don't you want to know where your wife is?"

"Don't play games with me, Mr. Hector," Cale warned. He stepped closer and leaned slightly toward the middle-aged man, who seemed perfectly at ease enjoying his time. "I don't know what your connection to this case is, but if your only intention is to waste my time, I won't hesitate to deal with you."

Hector chuckled softly. "You really are impatient."

"I'm racing against time," Cale replied, his tone just as cynical as before.

"I've never doubted your abilities." Hector leaned back in his chair. His expression remained impassive, but his gaze never left Cale. "It's precisely because I know what you're capable of that I contacted you."

Cale remained standing, looking at the man with undisguised displeasure. "Get to the point."

Hector let out a quiet breath. "Your wife is still alive."

That brief statement caused Cale's expression to soften slightly. Even so, the information did nothing to answer the many questions racing through his mind. Even if Lydia was still alive, was she unharmed? What if she had been injured?

"How is she?" Cale finally pulled out one of the chairs and sat down with his back perfectly straight.

"She's fine."

That was all. Yet for the first time since the devastating news that Lydia and Naomi had been kidnapped, the tension in Cale's shoulders eased ever so slightly.

"The people holding her have no intention of killing her."

"Then?" Cale pressed immediately.

"She's waiting." Hector straightened his back, a sign that he was about to discuss something far more serious than before.

"What do you mean?"

"Waiting to see what you're going to do. But... you do realize that no one is going to wait forever for you to make your move to rescue Lydia, don't you?" Hector fixed his gaze on Cale.

Silence settled over the small table once again. Hector folded his hands on the tabletop. "I'm sure you've already realized one thing."

Cale remained silent, waiting for Hector to continue.

"The moment you start deploying the full force of the Obsidian Circle without restraint," the man said with a quiet sigh. His gaze shifted away from Cale and out the window, watching the nearly empty streets, "Carrington Bay will become a battlefield."

Cale's expression didn't change in the slightest. "I won't hesitate to make everyone responsible pay for what they've done. Even if I have to turn this city into a sea of flames, I don't care."

Hector looked back at him. "I see."

"He dared to lay a hand on what's mine."

Cale's voice remained calm, yet it was laced with overwhelming intimidation. It was precisely because of that forced calm that the immense anger beneath it was so unmistakable, ready to erupt at any moment. The tension in the café suddenly crept higher, locking the atmosphere around them in place.

"That man crossed the line." There wasn't the slightest trace of hesitation as Cale continued. His gaze was razor-sharp. "And there's only one person crazy enough to do all this."

The two men's eyes met again in oppressive silence.

"Silas Evermont."
