“Where are you taking me?” Naomi asked, her gaze sharp.
The man beside her, Don Falcon, merely glanced at her briefly and gave a faint smile. “Be patient. Are you really that eager to get out of the car and be alone with me?”
Naomi let out a scornful scoff. “You're such a hopeless dreamer, Falcon!”
Falcon laughed. “Go ahead and curse me, Naomi. No one is coming to save you. Not even Chris. Or... Cale? He's probably busy looking for his wife. Not you.”
An overwhelming surge of irritation and anger swept through her. But Falcon's words were not entirely wrong. There was no way Chris knew what had happened to her. And Mr. Miller? Of course he would save Mrs. Lydia first. That didn't mean she wanted to be left without rescue, it was just that...
Cale had to put Lydia first. She didn't want anything bad to happen to that kind-hearted woman.
Rather than argue with Falcon, who seemed to be waiting to hear what else Naomi had to say, she chose to stare out at the road they were traveling instead. The longer she watched, the more she realized they had most likely left downtown Carrington Bay far behind. Especially when the black vehicle carrying her made a sharp turn onto a narrow road that seemed to be swallowed by the blur of towering trees on both sides.
The farther the car drove, the more every sign of civilization disappeared. The houses were no longer in sight. The smooth asphalt they had been traveling on gave way to an uneven rocky road.
The vehicle's violent jolts caused Naomi's hands, still tightly bound in front of her body, to slam repeatedly against the side of the seat, sending sharp pain shooting through them. She refused to complain even though the pain was beginning to leave her wrists numb.
She forced herself to keep her head up, studying the road they were taking. There were no road signs, and not a single other vehicle passed by. Even the phone signal on one of the men's screens in front of her disappeared completely. The man finally shut off his phone with an irritated motion and shoved it into his pocket.
This place was truly isolated from the outside world.
