“This is a bit much,” Lydia murmured, though a faint smile lingered. “I’m perfectly fine, as you can see.”

Cale watched her for a few seconds before letting out a long breath. “It didn’t sound minor from the report I received.”

Lydia sat back down, gesturing for him to sit beside her. “If you heard it from Daniel, of course it would sound far more serious.”

“So what happened to you doesn’t count as serious?” Cale asked, his tone sharpening.

Lydia let out a small laugh, though it wasn’t entirely light. “We were chased, rammed, and nearly dragged through streets I didn’t even recognize. If that’s not serious, I don’t know what is.” She exhaled softly, her gaze drifting ahead. “But the way Daniel handled the car… honestly, it felt like watching an action movie.”

Cale didn’t laugh. His gaze remained steady, unyielding. “This isn’t something you can take lightly.”

“I’m not taking it lightly,” Lydia replied calmly. “I just didn’t want you to panic.”

Cale fell silent for a few seconds, then turned toward Liu, who stood a short distance away. “Increase security,” he said curtly. “I want two layers of protection. No gaps.”

“Yes, sir,” Liu answered without hesitation.

Cale looked back at Lydia. “And you,” he added, his voice quieter now, “I want you to reconsider your plan to return to SunCity.”

Lydia arched a brow. “You want me to stop working?”

“I want you safe.”

She rolled her eyes, a hint of irritation slipping through. “I’m always safe.” She shifted slightly, angling her body toward him. ” Besides, I work in a secure environment. At SunCity. Your parents are there, along with Daven and Althea, and Chris too, aren’t they?”

“Even so, my love,” Cale said, not bothering to hide his concern.

“Then what’s the point of doubling my security if you’re still not going to let me work?” Lydia pouted, clearly displeased.

“Come on, sweetheart. I can’t keep worrying about you all the time.”

“Can we talk about my job another day?” Lydia offered. “I’m not ready to let it go. You know I love it.”

“I know,” Cale replied with a long breath. “But-”

“I also know you’re worried about me,” she cut in quickly. “But more than that, I want to know who they were.” Her voice grew more serious. “What kind of people would dare to do something like that out in the open?”

Cale didn’t answer right away. His gaze shifted for a moment, as if weighing his words.

“If I know who they are,” Lydia continued softly, “I can decide for myself whether I should keep working outside or not.”

Silence settled between them until, finally, Cale spoke. There was a trace of hesitation in his tone, “They’re not ordinary people,”

Lydia held his gaze without blinking, “That much is obvious.”

Cale exhaled slowly. “They’re Don Falcon’s men.”

The words made Lydia blink in disbelief. She stared at him, unmoving, and just as she was about to respond, the sound of footsteps halted abruptly at the edge of the room.
