Chapter 564
Her phone vibrated again in her hand. Not Harold.
News notifications.
One after another, the headlines flooded across the screens of major media outlets-and the worst part of all, her photo was displayed prominently in every one of them.
SunCity Daily: “New Scandal: Eli Ward’s Identity Fabricated.”
Metro News: “Selena Ward Suspected Mastermind Behind DNA Manipulation.”
City Channel: “Miller Family Revealed as Victims of Public Deception.”
Her hands curled into tight fists. She stopped looking at her phone. Harold wasn’t going to call her. Whether this was a trap he had set or something else she didn’t yet understand, one thing was certain-she was here. Alone. Without anyone to help her.
And now she had to face everything herself. Especially the relentless pressure from the reporters demanding
answers.
“Mrs. Selena! Will you apologize to the Miller family for this deception?”
“Are you aware of the psychological impact your actions may have had on the child?”
“Did you gain any financial benefit from this scheme?”
Their voices overlapped, competing with one another, pushing for a response, giving her no space to think.
Enough. She couldn’t let this spiral any further. “I’m not making any statement!” Selena finally raised her voice.
But the response only provoked more questions.
“Are you refusing to take responsibility?”
“Are you planning to run?”
The crowd pressed in tighter. Her steps faltered. She couldn’t move forward. She couldn’t retreat either. For the first time since all of this began, real fear crept into her chest. Then another voice cut through the chaos-firm, commanding.
“Excuse me. Please step aside.”
Several reporters turned at once, their cameras swinging toward the source. Two police cars had pulled up at the curb. The doors opened. Three officers stepped out, moving quickly and with purpose. The crowd of reporters began to part little by little, making room as the officers pushed through to do their job.
One of them walked straight toward Selena.
“Selena Ward?” he asked briefly.
Selena looked at him, her face draining of color. Why were the police here?

“Yes… what is this about?”
The officer took out an official document. “We’re from the SunCity Police Department. You are requested to come with us.”
Selena swallowed hard. “On what grounds?”
“On suspicion of falsifying official documents, defamation, manipulation of public information, and involvement in a conspiracy to harm and discredit other parties.”
Each word was delivered clearly-loud enough to be captured by the reporters who had been waiting all this time for something more. And now, it seemed, the situation had escalated far beyond anything Selena could control.
“You have the right to provide your statement through legal channels,” the officer continued. “For now, you need to come with us for further questioning.”
Camera flashes exploded again as the reporters surged forward, voices rising all at once.
“Selena! Are you going to fight these charges?”
“Do you plead guilty?”
“What do you have to say about all this?”
