HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 555

Chapter 555

Chapter 555

The concrete room fell silent again after the call ended.

The spotlight above Harold’s head still blazed harshly, throwing sharp shadows across a face already mottled with bruises. One of his hands remained bound behind the metal chair. Dried blood clung to the corner of his lips, and the swelling on one side of his face had worsened.

The only thing left of Harold’s arrogance was the sharpness in his eyes-fixed on his captors as if he still hadn’t

lost.

As if to prove it, he deliberately hurled the phone he had just used against the wall. The device shattered on impact and immediately, one of the guards grabbed his free arm and twisted it hard behind his back.

In the corner of the room, Chris leaned casually against a long table. His gaze rested on Harold, a faint smile playing on his lips-one that held not a trace of sympathy.

“Your acting is impressive,” he said lightly. Then he clapped, slow and exaggerated, as he walked toward the former mayor of SunCity. “How do you keep your voice that steady? So confident. As if you’re still the one in control.”

Harold turned his head slowly. His breathing was heavy, but his eyes remained hard.

It would be a lie to say he wasn’t in pain. Every inch of his body throbbed. During the phone call earlier, he had forced himself to stay composed. If he had slipped even once, the sharp object hovering dangerously close to his face would have been driven in without hesitation.

Cale-and his threats-were not something Harold could afford to take lightly.

“I am in control,” Harold spat. “You think you’ve won?” A crooked, contemptuous smirk pulled at his split lips.

“Well, well, well.” Chris reached out and slapped the swollen side of Harold’s face-hard enough to sting. ” You’re truly remarkable.”

Across the room, Cale stood with his hands in his pockets. He hadn’t spoken much. His expression was cold; his attention fixed on every word Harold uttered.

In one hand, he held a tuna sandwich. A cup of instant coffee sat nearby-his quiet breakfast companion amid

the tension.

“Your car is ready, Mr. Cale,” one of the guards said quietly, his tone hesitant, almost reluctant to interrupt.

Cale gave a brief nod. He wasn’t quite finished with this place, but there were other matters waiting for him.

Meanwhile, Chris crouched down so that he was level with Harold, studying him closely.

“Selena sounded very reassured after talking to you,” he continued. “You gave her hope. That’s good. She’ll do anything you ask now.”

He tilted his head, his smile widening slightly.

“I should get you a special trophy. You’re incredibly talented at this. Maybe I should call a producer?”

Harold let out a low, crooked smile. The small movement split the wound on his lip open again.

“You think the game is over?” he said quietly.

This time, his gaze shifted-not only to Chris, but to Cale, who was calmly finishing his breakfast as if none of this concerned him at all.

Harold was furious-sick with rage-but there was no way out of this place. He couldn’t even think of one.

Still, what he hated most was the idea of admitting defeat.

So the only thing left for him to do was provoke them.

“You’re wrong,” he said hoarsely. “You haven’t won. Not completely.”

Cale didn’t seem to react. He ignored the words as if they were nothing more than background noise.

Harold strained against the restraints, even though he knew it was useless. The bindings around his wrists felt tighter than before-unyielding, unforgiving. But he refused to look broken. He lifted his head higher, forcing himself to appear strong.

“You’ll pay for this,” he went on, his voice rough but defiant. “No one treats me like this without consequences.”

The words had barely left his mouth when Cale moved.

He abandoned the rest of his sandwich and coffee without a second glance. His steps were quick-and without warning, his fist drove straight into Harold’s face.

The impact echoed sharply through the empty room.
