HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 534

Chapter 534

She reached for the remote on the table.

The television flickered to life. The sound of the news immediately filled the silent room.

“Latest developments in the Callister Group case…”

Daven’s face appeared on the screen, standing in front of the prosecutor’s office, surrounded by reporters firing relentless questions at him.

A slow smile spread across Selena’s face.

“Good,” she murmured with satisfaction. “Harold really knows how to use his connections. It’s a good thing I didn’t refuse his offer. It would’ve been a waste to turn down such a perfect opportunity… to take control of something that was never mine.”

She crossed her legs and leaned back, settling into the sofa more comfortably.

But a few seconds later, her expression shifted.

The broadcast changed to something unexpected.

Her back straightened instantly. Her eyes widened in disbelief at what appeared on the screen.

A financial flow chart filled the display.

The news anchor continued in a grave tone.

“…the Callister Group’s legal team has presented new evidence indicating transaction manipulation carried out by certain parties in an attempt to bring the company down.”

Selena frowned.

“New evidence?”

The footage changed again. This time, a live broadcast took over nearly the entire screen.

“No!” Selena shot to her feet. One hand flew to her mouth, stifling the panic rising sharply in her chest. “How could this happen?”

Her heartbeat began to race.

The anchor’s voice continued.

“In addition, a key witness has provided direct testimony regarding the involvement of an organized network.”

The television cut to a sudden shift in coverage. The station’s logo was replaced by a bright red Breaking News banner flashing across the bottom of the screen.

A reporter stood in front of the prosecutor’s office.

Then the image changed.

Oscar appeared.

His face was pale. His eyes looked exhausted. Officers stood on either side of him, watching closely. A few seconds later, Noah came into view. Another man Selena didn’t recognize was shown as part of the same recorded sequence.

They spoke at length-about orders from certain parties, business manipulation, financial channels, and the systematic scheme designed to destroy Callister Group.

Several names were mentioned. The one repeated most often was Bret Frederick. At first, Selena simply watched, still leaning casually against the sofa. But as the report continued, her body slowly stiffened. Her fingers, which had been resting lightly on the armrest, began to grip it tightly.

“Why is he there?” she whispered.

The camera zoomed in on Oscar’s face as he stated that everything had been carried out under instructions from higher authorities.

The caption at the bottom of the screen appeared in bold, unmistakable text:

Witness admits to orders for systematic manipulation.

Selena’s breath caught. Her chest felt as if something heavy were pressing down on it. This wasn’t just another news report. This was a confession. And a confession like that could never stand alone.

A cold sensation spread through her stomach. Thoughts she had been suppressing suddenly surged forward, impossible to hold back.

If Oscar was talking…

If Noah revealed everything too…

If the trail was followed…

Harold’s name would surface.

And if Harold fell, it would only be a matter of time before everyone connected to him was dragged down as well.

Including her.

“No…” she murmured, her voice trembling before she could stop it. “This can’t be happening. Not now.”

Selena grabbed her phone immediately. Her hands moved quickly, but they were no longer steady. The tips of her fingers felt cold as she opened her contact list and tapped one name.

Harold.

The call connected. The ringing tone filled her ear.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

No answer.

Selena’s brow tightened. “Pick up,” she whispered, her voice turning urgent. “Harold, pick up.” The ringing continued until the call ended on its own. Her heartbeat quickened.

She stared at the screen for a few seconds, then pressed the call button again.

The second call. The ringing returned. Longer this time. Still unanswered.

The unease that had begun as simple anxiety now settled into something heavier. Her thoughts started racing, spinning through one worst possibility after another.
