Silence filled the room once more as Noel’s question hung in the air. The fluorescent lights reflected off the steel table, casting his pale face into stark clarity-no place to hide, no shadows left to shield him.
Cale crossed his arms over his chest. “Now tell me everything,” he said flatly. “Don’t leave anything out. I want to know why everything keeps leading back to the name Harold.”
Noel swallowed, his breathing heavy. “I’ve already told you, haven’t I?”
“Not all of it.” Cale’s smile sharpened as he shifted his chair slightly closer. “Or do you want to find out how I extract information from you?”
“N-no, Mr. Miller,” Noel stammered in fear, shaking his head quickly. One look at Cale was enough to convince him that this man was far more dangerous-capable of making him suffer in ways worse than he already had.
“Maybe because,” Noel continued weakly, “from the very beginning… all of this was his plan.”
Daven fixed him with a sharp stare. “What plan?”
“A long-term plan,” Noel answered haltingly. “God, I don’t even know how to explain-”
“Say it, damn it!” Cale snapped impatiently. “Don’t push my patience!”
“Harold!” Noel blurted out, startled by Cale raising his voice. “He never works alone. Whatever he does, he always makes sure there are no traces left behind.”
Cale let out a thin, humorless smile. “And you agreed to become one of his hands?”
Noel lowered his head, restless. “I owe him my child’s life.”
The room seemed to close in around them.
“What do you mean?” Daven asked, his voice controlled, though his jaw tightened.
Noel took a long breath, as if reopening an old wound. “Seven years ago, my child fell gravely ill. Kidney failure. We needed not only a donor, but an enormous amount of money. And fast-track treatment, because back then…” Noel bowed his head even lower. “I wasn’t a doctor earning enough to secure my family’s future. I sold everything I had our house, our savings. None of it was enough.”
Cale leaned forward. “And Harold appeared.”
“Yes,” Noel said quietly. “He paid for the surgery, moved my child overseas, handled all the medical paperwork. Without him… my child would have died.”
Daven clenched his fists. “So in return, you falsified medical data?”
“Not just that,” Noel admitted, his voice trembling. “Harold used my position as head of the hospital in NorthValle. Before I was transferred to SunCity Hospital-rewarded for what they called my ‘excellent performance’ in NorthValle.”
“What did you give Harold?” Daven asked as he sat down beside Cale, his eyes never leaving Noel.
Noel looked back and forth between them. Deep down, he didn’t want to reveal a secret that was never meant to see the light of day. But if he stayed silent, his life-and his family’s–were at risk. “I… I can’t say any more than this.”
Cale rubbed his face in frustration. “You’re testing my patience,” he said quietly. He stood up, pushing his chair

“Cale,” Daven stopped him. “Beating him won’t help.”

Cale growled under his breath. “I want answers, Daven. I’m certain all of this ties back to Harold.”
“Yes. I believe that too.” Daven gestured for Cale to sit back down, while Noel trembled in fear, convinced Cale was about to hit him again.
“You said Harold threatened you?” Daven asked intently. “Tell the truth-before Cale or Chris decides to handle you.”
Noel met Daven’s gaze, his eyes anxious. “That’s… but can you guarantee my safety? No-my family’s safety from Harold?”
“If I can?”
Noel swallowed nervously. “Then… I’ll tell you everything.”
Daven glanced at Cale, who was still standing in the corner. When their eyes met, Cale clicked his tongue in irritation. “Fine. I’ll have Erick handle it.”
“You heard that?” Daven said, a faint smile forming. “Your family will be safe if you tell the truth. So tell me― what else did you do for Harold?”
Noel let out a long breath. “Besides the DNA test results, medical archives, revalidations-everything passed through my hands.”
“Including Eli’s custody documents?” Cale pressed.
