At least, that was what Eli wanted to believe.
A few moments later, Natalie's phone rang. The girl looked at the screen before smiling.
"Raven is having a party tonight."
Eli frowned. "A party?"
"To celebrate the team's victory." Natalie immediately looked excited. "Everyone is coming. The team members, their friends, students from several departments... David will be there too."
Hearing that name, Eli's heart felt heavy again. "I don't want to go."
Natalie immediately turned to her. "You have to go."
"Why?"
"Because you two just had a fight." Natalie took her hand. "Wouldn't it be better for you two to sort things out tonight?"
Eli shook her head slowly. "I'm not ready."
"That's exactly why you have to come."
Natalie continued to persuade her. She said that David might still be angry, but that he was surely waiting for Eli to come. She said that if Eli did not come, David might think that Eli did not want to fix their relationship.
Eli became even more hesitant.
Not long afterward, Natalie received another call. She immediately turned on the speakerphone. Someone's voice came from the other end. "David is here."
Eli immediately fell silent.
Natalie smiled. "David, Eli still doesn't want to come."
There was a brief silence before David's voice was heard. "It's up to her."
His voice was flat. "If she wants to come, then she can come."
Natalie looked at Eli.
David continued, "I want to celebrate this victory. If you can come, then come."
The call ended just like that.
Eli lowered her face. There was no apology, not even a little, no explanation, not even an effort from David to talk about what had happened between them.
Yet, strangely, that was exactly what made Eli want to come even more. Maybe David was still angry. Maybe they just needed some time to calm down. And maybe, as Natalie had said, all of this really was just a misunderstanding.
"Come on," Natalie urged again. "Let's go together."
Eli let out a long sigh. Finally, she nodded. "All right."
That night, as soon as Eli entered the party venue, she immediately realized that she had stepped back into David's world. Music could be heard from every corner of the room. Many students gathered in small groups, while several members of the Raven basketball team were the center of attention.
However, it was not only their victory that attracted attention.
David did too.
Eli saw many women standing not far from the man. They were beautiful, well-dressed, and looked very confident. Some even openly tried to get David's attention. Some laughed too loudly whenever David spoke. Others deliberately moved closer just to get a chance to talk to him.
