That morning, the Miller mansion was bustling before the sun had even risen too high. The servants moved from one room to another, the extended family began arriving, while the sound of conversations and laughter slowly filled every corner of the house. There was no longer any tension like the night before. All that remained was the excitement that the day they had been waiting for had finally arrived.
Naomi sat in front of the mirror, allowing a makeup artist to finish the final touches on her face. The wedding dress that had been hanging in her room for the past few weeks was now perfectly fitted to her body. For a moment, Naomi simply stared at her own reflection.
She looked different.
Not because the dress made her look like someone else, but because for the first time, she saw herself as a woman who was truly beginning a new life.
"All done, Miss Naomi."
Naomi nodded softly. "Thank you."
Once everyone had left the room, the door opened again. Lydia entered with Cale. Lydia's expression immediately softened when she saw Naomi standing there.
"You look beautiful."
Naomi smiled shyly. "I'm nervous."
Cale, standing behind Lydia, merely lifted the corner of his lips. "That's normal."
Naomi looked at him. "You're not going to say something that'll make me even more nervous, are you?"
"Probably not."
"Probably?"
Cale chuckled softly. "I just want to make sure you don't change your mind."
Naomi immediately shook her head. "I won't."
Her answer made Cale's smile widen. There was a relief on his face that was difficult to hide. He had watched Naomi go through so much, making this day feel like something far greater than just a wedding.
"Are you ready?" he asked.
Naomi took a deep breath.
"Yes."
And this time, she was truly certain.
The wedding took place in a warm atmosphere filled with love. Almost the entire family was there. The Devereux family, the Miller family, the Callister family, and those closest to them who had been part of their journey filled the venue.
Naomi felt nervous when she first stepped inside. But the moment her eyes found Chris at the far end, all the sounds around her seemed to fade away.
Chris stood waiting for her. His eyes never left her.
The smile on Chris's face made Naomi's chest feel warm. For a few seconds, she simply walked along the path that had been prepared, but deep in her heart, she knew she was not walking toward something frightening.
She was walking toward someone who had chosen her.
When Naomi finally stood before Chris, he gently took her hand.
"Are you nervous?" he whispered.
