Flora’s Guide to a Second Chance at Love and Life novel Chapter 1910

This time, though, if the Kidd family couldn’t give a real explanation, there was no way things would just blow over.

Fiona hadn’t come by last night—she’d waited until morning out of respect for Jane. On both personal and proper grounds, the Kidds couldn’t afford to treat her carelessly now.

“Someone, bring the tea,” Mrs. Kidd said stiffly.

Fiona slid smoothly into a chair, tugging a confused Jane down beside her before she could even ask what was going on.

“I love this rose,” Fiona said, plucking the flower and tucking it into Jane’s hair, arranging it gently.

She didn’t rush to speak, just waited, letting the tension build, curious to see who would break first.

Eventually, the old Mrs. Kidd—unable to handle the pressure—finally snapped. But instead of addressing Fiona, her sharp gaze landed on Carson.

Her voice was shaky with both age and anger as she glared at him. “Well? Care to explain what happened?”

Carson looked ready to pass out, his face draining of all color. There was no way he could answer that. He was still in agony from two broken fingers, and if Mrs. Kidd found out he’d been out partying, blowing half a million at the club, she’d probably kill him herself. She’d never liked him anyway; she was always looking for an excuse to kick him out.

No matter what, Carson couldn’t tell the truth. He bit his lip until it hurt, refusing to say a word, just mumbling, “Don’t ask, please… I really don’t know.”

Fiona’s lips curled into a cold, almost mocking smile. “If Mr. Kidd doesn’t want to talk, maybe I should help him out.”
