Escaping the Psycho's Grasp novel Chapter 5

The scene unfolded in slow motion. The gleaming baseball bat grew larger and larger in my vision. The dad's expression morphed from rage to terror as my machete whistled through the air, aimed directly at his forehead.

When the blade was less than an inch from his skull, I started to tremble. Not from fear, but from exhilaration.

A primal, bloodthirsty thrill coursed through my veins. Every pore in my body was buzzing with excitement.

But…

He flinched.

At the last possible second, he jerked his head to the side.

He hit me, but I missed him.

The machete sparked against the pavement, the impact sending a jolt up my arm.

"Holy shit! You're trying to kill me!" His voice was shaking.

I was furious.

How could I let him get away?

I lunged at him again, swinging the machete wildly.

He scrambled backward, tripping over his own feet, his eyes wide with fear.

The other guys, seeing their leader's terror, scattered like cockroaches.

But I wasn't about to let these cowards off the hook. I chased after them, machete in hand. Just a minute ago, they were talking about teaching me a lesson. Now? they were running for their lives.

"What?"

"I can't promise I won't kill him." I was being completely honest. I bet my eyes were as clear and innocent as a newborn babe's.

The officer blinked. "Don't joke about that. Murder is illegal, you know."

"I know," I said calmly. "But I can't let this go."

The officer's expression hardened. "What's your name? And your ID number?"

I told him, and he quickly pulled up my file. His brow furrowed as he read through it.

"Please come down here right away. I need you to run another psych evaluation on this guy." He was probably talking to my psychiatrist. "How the hell did this guy get released?"
